hahahahahahhaha

*/me iz confused*

Of course it'll take longer to boot with a NIC in - it's scanning the network ( duh!? ). How is scanning the network a 'problem'??

*/me iz very confused, cos I don't think that's quite what you meant*

:confused: :confused:

is there a way to make the system not scan the network rather than removing the NIC itself.

Try setting a fixed IP. Or just disable the NIC in device manager.

Yeah - that's about it.

Though I can't work out two things:

1) Why, under ANY circumstance, whould your PC be on, AND not connected to a LAN :confused:

2) Why would boot times be an issue? After all, you never turn off a rig unless moving it onto a different LAN, upgrading, or overclocking. :confused:

/me iz still confused....
:p :p

I turned my computer off the other day, cause I had nothing for it to do, ( if anybody try pimp seti of fold I'm gonna smack you's :) ). The next day my partner said she was gonna use it, then came back a couple of minutes later to ask if it was broken :)

Actually my win98SE rig doesn't appreciate being left on all day, if I leave it on running SETI or whatever when I leave in the mornings, I usually have to reboot when I get home at night before I can do anything useful, not sure why, it is just the way it is.

Setting a fixed IP stops the 20 sec wait thing on bootup when u'r using a NEC.

Are u on a lan? if so someone might of copied off u taxing all your ram, running a ram freeing program or running a game will bring the ram usage back to acceptable lvls (I use Q3 and just do a timedemo, works like a charm).
