Do i need a surge protector for my new pc ?
What type of PSU do i need (see specs below)?

buy a 'cheap' enermax (350w), you'll get faily good protection from just that.
unles you live in the whops I wouldnt bother with a surge protector/line conditioner

Oh god no, not a generic, don't risk it! The PSU is perhaps the most important component in your system and the absolute worst area to skimp in. Stick with a 350w or more from a reliable quality brand. eg: Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax, Zalman etc.

Generally if it doesn't look like it's made from aluminium and has a warranty of more than 1 year, you are usually safe enough. I would still get an Enermax 350W for that money though, you can't go wrong.
Don't get a Hyena (or a Deer, or a Codegen) no matter how 'good' the ratings - but you knew that already.

I think generally enermax 350W is around $105 - $110
