Haha read this:
"Your current account balance is $48.43.
As per your instructions, we will direct debit this amount from your
bank account. This will be processed around the first day of next month." - From an email I just recieved a few hours ago.
Funny thing is that I have not even sent back the confirmation letter they mailed out to me whehn I joined a month ago. They have no bank details so how and where are they going to get this fabled $48.43?
This has put me off joining Orcon totally..... they just have no idea what's going on. I wasn't aware of this $18 charge for joining in the middle of the month either (it was probably in the T&C's).

This kind of thing makes me proud to have been set up with paradise.net dialup (paid and all) in 2 days after signing up. Not recieving mail from Orcon with a piece of paper I sign and mail back to them and *hopefully* get another letter asking for my bank details.
*NOT HAPPY* - Even though I haven't lost any money... I just hope they don't continue a 2nd time to make me pay :(

Exactly the problem I had with Infogen, I signed up for around 2 hours, couldn't connect or check email, it was fubar'd, rang them and said to cancel it and they said "We have disconnected your account, becuase you didnt use more than a days uage we won't be charging you any connection or usage fees" - Sweet as, or so i thought ...
3 months later I get a letter saying I owe them a $30 setup fee and $50 for internet usage, WTF!?
After a long explanation, they realzied they had forked up and thier stupid support person said "Ohh I'm sorry, our account people made the mistake, all your outstanding fees have been wiped" - Kiss my a$$ Infogen.
BTW - Xtra hasn't been all bad the past few weeks, I'm begenning to think thier service is worth paying for (well the last couple of weeks anyway.

Well I emailed them asking to remove my account.... if their reply proves unproductive I shall phone them tomorrow and give them a blasting.
... yes I know I am probably at fault as well, and I may have to pay this money *mabye* we will see....

Inspire, set up and run within 5 mins over the net. Pay by credit card or direct debit. Couldn't be easier.
Great service too.

umm, read it closer......the $18 is for one partial month, 02/07/02 - 22/07/02 and the next full month charge is 23/07/02 to 22/08/02
plus i think this is an AUTOMATED email.

So it is, I was so uppity about the email I didn't read it properly....... they are adding August's usage into play too. That was obviously an automated email unless they are dumber than I thought.
*Still mad*

and Orcon are probably one of the best ISP's around.
I ran into some problems with the DC hub they are hosting....so i emailed the addy given on the p2p.net.nz webpage...got a reply later that evening from the head honcho himself.

Yes I would still choose them over any other isp when it comes to Jetstart. This may be the case very soon as planned.
I am a bit worried that I may have to pay this money. I think I might have to....... not good at all :( I'll pay the $18 for the partial fee but not next months net... NO WAY!!. I haven't even dialed in since I used the free 15 hours last month.

you just pay in advance that is all.......... maybe like you say you should have read there T&C's .... dont get your nickers in such a twist about it as from what I have read they are not really at fault........ other isps also ask for payment in advance while others dont ...... just something to weigh up when choosing one.......

Well it was stated that my account was enabled and then once the free 15 hours was used or the month was finished, then my account was going to be locked until they recieved my payment.

They're not flawless. Having been with them a while, I've had two outs - 1 slowdown, and 1 overnight out ( the slowdown was a time when the main fibre was screwed up due to a faulthy card @ (you guessed it) telecoms end, and the out was Telecom's fault  ).
Of course, that's hardly their fault, so it's iffy if you can count that.
And EITHER way - their apsolutely 0WNZ1NG support staff make them worth every cent!! :)
BTW, my dial-up provider used to be Ihug. And while they're not as good as they used to be, I still have nothing but praise for them. I'd reccomend them anyday as well.
Haven't tried anyone else.... I only go with what's proven, so I never wind up switching.... ;)

why are you paying $25 for only 15 hours online if I understand it right........
for instance
inspire $20 for 200 hours
Ihug $25 for 250 hours
even....... Xtra $28 flatrate......
Antallica
28-07-2002, 04:27 PM
No I was going to start on the flat rate @ $29/month. That $25 is them putting next months fee into play. The 15 hours was free and could be used before you started paying.
