Anyone have one of these?
http://www.btceurope.nl/english/2-3-combo.htm

I need to know if you can remove the BTC CDROM from these and put your own into it?

As I want to get an external drive, but be able to upgrade and put a DVDR in it later on.

I suppose it would be possible, buy why not just get an external caddy in the first place?

You surpose huh, thanks but I had that part under control myself.

External caddy = $100ish
external caddy with 52xCDRW/DVDcombo = $140ish

its all about the math.

I got one of those for my old man. Looks to just be a normal drive with a power/USB2-IDE interface tacked on the back. It could work (I was looking to give it a try but haven't had a chance to my hands on the drive).

BTC makes crap gear, I have mates that have only got 150 DVD-R out of a BTC DVD-RW

If you only want to do 100 odd disk per year they are ok but they stuff up fast

I’m just saying what I have seen with the DVD drives but I think the CD-R ones will much the same

BTC drives are just dandy. Despite a number of negative attitudes towards them, their failure rate is not considerable different to any other brand. If it were, they wouldn't be sold in NZ any more... high failure rates = very bad business for an importer. BTC drives have been sold in NZ for years now... there must be a connection...

Every single model of drive out there has been the subject of a bad experience by someone, it's just some like to whinge more than others.

I've been through a couple of BTC's in the last two years.

It’s just some thing that I had noted about BTC

Good to know other people have had good use out of them. :)

I took one apart at work today and it appears the answer to your question is no. The connectors etc on the back appear to be part of the actual drive itself.
