Ah! What a surprise! :rolleyes:

OK - so most of us are pretty flat tack studying for exams and tests, or more likely finishing assignments so we CAN start the study ( or even more likely just pretending we are ;) ). Soooo what would everyone thing of an [OCNZ](CHCH) clan day?

Basically, a one day LAN - so it'll be ub3r cheap ( $5 including some fish n chips or something? ), won't take an entire weekend out of people's schedules ( mine included ;) ), won't require a day to recover from, and we could do all sort of crazy stuff like have mod-offs :D :cool:!

Any thoughts?

BTW, for those of you that don't know ( hey - it COULD happen! :D ), L3 is a LANing group here in ChCh which a lot of the ChCh OCNZ forum members attend. The homepage is www.L3.net.nz (http://www.L3.net.nz) - and that's generally kept reasonably current ;).

try the coppethorne i think it is. they have a massive room thingy that would do us fine.

Most commercial facilities like that are upwards of $20 an hour. And seeing as LANs are 35-40 hours normally ( though a 12 hour LAN could be done... maybe ). AND LANers are used to paying less than $20 each for the facilities, networking gear and power gear, so guess what?

I've rung 5 or 6 churches and community halls which are out, Uni is out, Rolleston is out, everywhere is out - might just have to wait until the next time slot :(.

And I don't have the time to be shagged ringing anyone else :(

Well it depends. KJ and I would like to organise a lan... but the venue is hard to arrange at this moment. All the good places we wanted are gone. What do you suggest?

the avonhead school hall. not sure bout power but it has tables and chairs. dads on the board of trustees at that school so it could be an option... i can ask about it if u like??

Mmm, we have given up on schools but hell, I sure like a lan... here are the kind of critereas we need ay:

i) Lots of power [let us know on the fuses, we hate to blow stuff up!]

ii) Tables + Chairs for 40+ people

iii) Allow us to stay over night

iv) Reasonably hire charge

I think thats it...

The deal with power is we need at least 4 separate 10-amp circuits to use, or 1 3-phase point with more than a 40-amp rating.

The problem with school halls ( well, the 3 or 4 I've looked into ) is:
- won't allow 24hour operation ( no overnights )
- don't have the power
- sport/etc groups using the hall on the Saturday.

That last reason ( especially the etc :D ) is also the reason why the 6 or 7 community/church halls I've rang are also a no-go.

Unless you personally have one, LAN venue's are a lot harder to get than it would first appear. :(

3-phase power does not equal 3-phase power does not equal 3-phase power!!!

Do the plugs in your sleepout have 4 or 5 pins in them? Are they MUCH larger than normal plugs?

If not, then that's not the type of 3-phase power we need. The term '3-phase power' gets used for a couple of VERY different things:

In houses:
3 separate fuses and circuits.

In halls/factories
1 circuit, but the load is distributed on three overlaid phases, so there is always at least one phase nearing the top of it's cycle.

....do some googlage and you'll find out what I'm rambling on about... ;) ( that's what I had to do )

Don't ya hate ppl that can't think for themselves. My brother was using my dads computer the other day, and since he has it setup so dad is admin and evry1 else is a user, he culdnt use nero. So i show him how to use xp's built in copying theingy. comes back in 10mins, oh the cd didnt copy propery, it just copied the mp3s onto the cd, well thats cuz u made a data cd dumbass.

if people dont mind getting to know some more people even if it may be only 20, and dont mind travelling for 20-25mins we're going to be having a Lan in Rangiora quote"the birthplace of Mird-OC" on the 13 of next month. Time will probably be same as L3, ie 10am sat - Midnight. Coz its out of the city should only cost $5-10 but still heaps of fun and can still be sane for the week ahead

I've got an e-mail from Mark Doyle, who I believe is one of the owners of C-Lan. ... He has offered us a good place ... but one of the rules I think states we can't warez, and leeching==warez.

I don't care how big your CD collection/car's engine/ego is - these forums are not for discussion of how much illegal software you have horded.

PLUS the fact that they WON'T ban leeching. How else am I supposed to give dialup people my collections of drivers/game demoes/etc. Otherwise, they might never experience the goodness that The GIMP brings.

C-Lan place is great, but TOO expensive. I'm not even considering it now unless they shift on their charges. I believe KJ agrees with me on this point.

L3 #5 is definately down the gutter and out.
