Okay so I got my new Abit KX733 and I'm moving my current parts over to the new mobo..
I've taken all of the extras out ie: not hooked up any of the HD's, nic, sound cdrom, 2nd 256mb stick of ram while I'm trying to figure out this problem.
So at the moment I working with:
Leadman PSU
1ghz AMD Duron (pencil rubbed out, back to stock) (ps: new cpu is coming soon)
Abit KX7333R mobo
256mb of corsair xms 2400
17" monitor
keyboard
mouse
gf3 ti 200
Now to the problem.. when I start it up, the fans spin everything powers up but the monitor is not intializing. Still got the video no signal msg.
I've think I've tried practically everything:
~~~
Checked how everything is seated (many many times)
Cleared cmos (quite alot)
Taken out the batt for awhile...
I've Taken every non-essential component out.
Tried my other video card (geforce2)
Tried my other monitor.
I've tried the take it all apart put it all together again trick.
Got it set up outside of the case at the moment.
Whole time I've been using an anti static strap and being sensible.
The CPU, video card and ram work absolutely fine in my old mobo a soltek ERV.
I'd try a PCI videp card but I don't have one around... Anyone got one and live local to Mt Roskill / Lynfield, Auckland?
Anyway the only conclusion I can make is the mobo is in some way fubar'd.. probably the AGP slot
I've going to leave the battery out overnight and try everything from scratch again tomorrow.
Any other suggestions?
Because after that I guess I send it back.. bummer
hmm grumpy
Check your RAM, more often than not its an issue.
Try using different slots, turning it around etc.
Could be issue with mobo not like that brand.
Also are the keyboard lights flashing - not flashing is a telltail sign.
Could also be your cables - i was having this issue with and old Intel mobo at course, remember red line on side of IDE cable is to be matched with Pin 1.
Does that board have dip switches that may be at the wrong settings? (Multiplier/FSB) Always good to check (that's if that board has any).
make sure you system speaker is installed it should give you beep codes which you can usually decifer in the manual, should tell you what the problem is.
[takes a guess]Sounds like RAM problem to me.[/takes a guess]
I got a PCI video card, and could drop by your place on my way home on monday after 12:30?
I live out more West, but I'm the city every day.
Have you tried a different PSU?
I would say save yourself some trouble and just take it back and get them to test it as it definately sounds like it is the MB to me......
u guys are all wrong :p
everyone has this problem, its ur AGP CARD, i bet u didnt reseat the card the right way, push the card right down the AGP Slot till u hear a TUCK!!! :p sound, which means u have locked the Card into the AGP Slot in place, ppl are scared to push their AGP right down as they think they might kill the Card, but dont worry jst push it down till u hear and Locking sound...
Tell me if tht hlps
yep, that can be the case,
or sometime, when the mobo is not mounted correctly the AGP can't get into the slot any deeper, and sticks out a bit,
the thing with the click? I never had that on any of my mobo's?
but yeah, AGP go deeper than PCI.
yah like ystrday i built a PC frm scratch for brother, and everthing went smooth (touches wood), i seated the AGP CARD, and i said this aint right, didnt hear a CLICK sound, so i took it out, and stuck it back in CLICK!! and its in..
the only thing tht took 10mins to do was, installing the dam HSF, the pins were easy enough to push in but jst 1cm away frm the pins were capacitors etc, so i did it with caution lol, really frustrating when u take 10mins to lock the HSF pins in place..:D
The RAM works perfectly on my old mobo, I'm tried using just one stick (i have two), I've tried alternating which stick I'm using.
Keyboard lights flash once like normal...
The video card is pressed down in the agp slot properly, I've tried 2 different video cards. I've tried setting it up without the case so I could push the agp right down.. still no go.
No dip switches, abit = jumperless
Didn't bother hooking up the PC Speaker, will try that now.. but I don't remeber there being a listing of the beep codes in the manual at all.
no there wont be but if you google you should find an explaination of the beep codes I am sure that they are universal for all manufacturers
Tried different PSU too ..
Usually don't bother plugging in the PC Speaker but good idea.. so I'm getting one long beep, then a few seconds silence then another long beep.. few seconds silence, another beep etc
No details of the beep codes in the manual
:(
Yep, I get the same beeps as wibber for my mobo. Make sure that RAM is in real hard. Sometimes it easier to stick it in while the mobo is out of the case so the mobo doesn't flex.
yep my bet is the ram too. i always have the speaker plugged in when i first assemble a computer, just makes it a lot easier to diagnose problems. my graphics card error beep has been the same as wibbers on all my past mobos that i can remember.
good luck ragnor. :)
RAM error. Try reseating it or using a different slot.
Edit: Actually it could be a H/W monitoring error. That gives a very similar POST error. Try moving the HSF power to a different plug.
So, hows it going?
I'll be very interested to see what the problem is/was.
Yup bascially it was/is a RAM problem...
My Corsair XMS 2400 DDR Ram is mysteriously incompatible with the Abit KX7333R as far as I can tell. It should work but it doesn't... Just one of those things I guess. The Corsair RAM works fine in my Soltek ERV (kt266a) mobo with very aggressive memory timings so I guess that's where it's gonna stay. The KX7333R works fine with a borrowed 256mb stick of Samsung 2700 TCB3.
Excellent that the forum and OCNZ reviews are back.. especially the DDR ram comparison..
Have to ponder a RAM purchase..
