OCI Communication link doesn't mention SWAT LAN.

Wolfman Entertainment link is broken, correct link:
http://www.wolfmanentertainment.com
?

...but that site doesn't have any info either ( and every last one of the links on the main page was a dead link .

You know, April 1 was a few weeks ago... :p

LOL, that's got nothing to do with it. I don't announce LANs without updating the site - I was just thinking that if people come through here and think 'that sounds cool', they'll follow your links and find nothing ( which will no doubt confuse them ).

Given you don't have the pw etc for the site yet, just put ALL the info in your forum threads, and leave a link in with 'more info watch this space' or something.
( would be less confusing for potential LANers that don't know the situation )

You've gotta admit it's strange to see a webpage big enough to require selecting your local mirror, yet small enough that it doesn't have ANY content :p

give me some time to make a page, clean up the code, update the site, and oh yea get Orcon to tell me my password Yeah it's my fault too. Since we aren't doing any events that are coming in recently, the thought of updating the website hasn't been there. I dunno, but L3 isn't really a news site ... although the future may be a little different....

Not sure if this would be better in PM/email. But please everyone remember to refrain from 'OMG YUO TARD SUCK! HAHA' posts ;).

Copyright

When something is written/created, it becomes the property of of the author. You don't NEED to put a 'copywrite' sign on something for it to have copywrite - it gets that automatically. The copywrite sign is used to state your intent to protect the content, and to advertise the fact that the content is not in the 'public domain' ( touchy issue itself ).

Unexpected charges

No idea on what the legal line on an unexpected bill for labour which you believed was voluntary is. But it would certainly be bad form to bill somebody for something which was assumed to be voluntary.

The same for charging for switch-hire without negotiating that first.

Just out of curiosity, why are there so many 404's there? The:
- 'About Us'
- 'Solutions'
- 'Support'
- 'Downloads'
- 'Contacts'
- 'Site Map'
..links are all 404's. The only links that do work are 'Home', 'Search' and 'Solutions'. Is it a CMS template that has extra stuff that you don't need, or are those pages that you're working on?

( hard to tell, because I don't know what Wolfnetworks is without the 'About Us'/'Help'/'FAQ' pages ;) )

In case you're wondering, I'm still curious to know what Wolfnetworks actually IS, but it's kinda hard to find out, ( or is it a secret, hehe :D ).

Well hey, if SWAT is half as much fun as the last NCGN, she'll be golden :D

siti
26-04-2004, 02:20 PM
This post is from Matt (using sitis name)

I cant see why there is a big issue here. For years now I have desired to be a part of in medium to large well planned Lan events, which NCGN could not deliver. (I had to pass over the orginising to Josh as I had to commit my spare time to my 2 jobs, then Josh seemed to not have the time to plan future events / update the site, then NCGN was handed over to Simon who WAS MOTIVATED and had the time and brought us more good LANS) I have had alot of discussions with Simon and fully support what he wants to do with OCI & SWAT because without the HUGE amount of work he has put into NCGN it would have died and by starting SWAT lans and *hopefully* being well planned we should see an awesome future to lanning (alongside L3 and the like of course). Multiplayer Computer games and consoles are the future so lets make Chch a model for other citys to follow and get more well planned LANs happening.

I was the very original creator of Both the NCGN concept, The NCGN name and the website. (therefore must have any legal right if any to these things - if anyone has). I fully support Simon in what he is trying to do and if he makes financial gain from SWAT then i say good on you si because you have been the one who has taken the concept by the horns, put in huge amount of time and you only are the one who deserves it. Both myself and Josh were in the position to do somthing with it but it was obviously not that important to either of us.

-Josh, dont panic, I have nothing against You, lets just look forward to better gaming in the future.

WolfNetworks is my business name, With which i do programming / network setup and managment for businesses and such, The site's a work in progress, Don't worry KJ it's getting there, you just cant see it all ;)

The sections are there, I'm just adding content and what not as it's not the final version of the site, if you notice up the top left hand corner theres a different domain than what you see :)

Yes, you did create the NCGN website. However we both had a vision of forming a Lan and it was by chance that we got talking and decided to work together to get one up and running. If I remember correctly it was I who thought of the name NCGN, the other option was RGN, each representing North Canterbury Gaming Network and Rangiora Gaming Network. You thought NCGN sounded better so we went with it.

This leaves us on neutral ground and I'm happy with that.
</pedantic mode>

I have no problems with Simon making money from his new Lan. The problem is OCI Communications has presented NCGN with a bill for $223.75. I have detailed why NCGN will not be paying this in a PM to simon and will be in contact with you soon to show you the financial statements. Never in the time previous to Simon helping would we spend $106 on 'Event Staff Clothing' There are others but Im probably boring people enough as it is.

Im not panicking, just bringing details to light and warning others.

I do not see what you are warning others about. The lan has been getting better and better, due to great organisation skills & free time of simon. By putting it as part of his business simon can save money, therefore buy more things like server-parts, switches, spare lan cables, better locations etc.

From what I know that bill is because you and your family did not pay for some of or all of the lans, even though us organisers paid for every lan. Although this is between you and simon - a personal issue!

To conclude the way simon is running it everyone wins.

Josh: I don't see the problem, it seemed as if you were not intersted any more by not even showing up to the last lan.

hehe, yea... the way this thread is going there will be a confrontation at the front door :D

On a more serious note, keep all you personal and business issues to yourselves guys.

It's a LAN notification thread, NOT a Lan slamming one!
If you got issues, do it around a private table - not a public arena

The excuse "To warn others" is a crock!, it sounds more like you are airing your dirty laundry in public, and possibly persuade other not to attend.

Me, I'm keep for a LAN no matter who organises it, I've been to L3's, NCGN and the recent Sigma. I dont care who organises it, just as long as we can get some gaming done, and it's run efficiently I'm happy. (not LAN whore status yet, but I do aspire ;) )

There's more than enough room for all of the Lan organisations, so lets let each one take it's turn without any fuss eh?!?!

I understand you have some 'issues' with the organiser(s) of SWAT. Just take it up with them personally, not publicly :)

Dunno about anyone else, but I'm keen to see how the LAN goes. If it flops it flops, if it goes, I'll be in for more :D (goto build up that LAN whore status fast  )

Good for you warning other lans who might get people to help out with organisation 2 much thinking.
Springing a bill on somebody without prior discussion is unprofessional. I'm sure he's learnt from this mistake, and you shouldn't pay for his mistake.

Next time i hope for f()ks sake the mods lock a thread such as this sooner.

If you have a problem, sort it out like gentlemen and not children. If it is a matter of laws, go see lawyers or mediation, hell OCNZ forums are not the Disputes Tribunal, however i am sure pople have made up their own minds by your behaviour.

I need at least 25 people on each of the nights to pay for the venue costs
If I don't have that many people signed up by next wednesday (19th may) I will have no choice but to cancel the event
I'd hate to have to do that so all those considering coming please signup asap and tell others
I've heard tell that the prices are a little on the high side for some people truth is even if everyone paid the door sales cost the event would loose money

Then why run it?

I thought the idea of a LAN (or even any business) was to at least break even, and if you do make extra out of it, it goes into hardware/upgrades etc? (yup, the never ending black hole for your hard earned cash!)

MaZeR

I'm sure he means that if everyone that's signed up right now paid the door price it wouldn't break even. Hence the minimum number requirement.

If you're having problems getting numbers, perhaps one thing to look at is your marketing strategy.

Where are you advertising the LAN?

An answer of 'just here' would probably indicate you have some work to do ;).

I have downloaded a sniper arena mod for ut2004. It is able to make the sniper rifle as fast firing as the original ut. But you can change everything, so I have made a ut2004 sniper rifle model, sound, scope but the scope is totally open. That put with the UT Classic mutator makes for a great CTF-Face match. We will defintly have to play this a bit... Also I am d/ling the newly released CBP for ut2004. I'll have to tell you my thoughts on it though ;)

Everyone that is going please invite people that would be interested :-) it would be great if we could get a semi-large lan!

Well I got home about noon, having to pick the gf up from the airport in the afternoon. Not bad for a Friday night... pity everyone seemed to be turning up as I was leaving, but never-the-less.

Some good UT2K4 blastage, and some rude and totally foul aircraft tactics in 1942. Fully stocked with Linux ISOs and game demos despite the fairly sparse shares... although I never have enough space. I may have ****ed my CD burner, but nevermind.

I totally agree with Imdying, it would be better if the even was just early saturday to sunday afternoon.

Also I am going to look on the internet to get the best version of DC++, because different versions vary alot in speeds. Because some of those linux ISOs took too long to transfer at 300k a second ;)

I would have been good if the manager of blue skies had told me about that guy or if the builder had answered me when i asked him if i could help him
I mean some guy just walks in and up to a power point that i had had an extention cord plugged into that was origionally powering the servers and just yanks out the cord without so much as uttering a word to me
