ive got Norton Personal Firewall 2001 and AntiVirus and whenever i close the AutoProtect in the Close Program window, out of curiosity as u do, its always not responding (it doesn't matter if i close Norton or not)

If i shutdown after closing Autoprotect it always hangs for some reason

any ideas?

im running 98se

yeah, Nortons been pretty good so far.

also what do u think about Ad aware? some hate it, some love it, i haven't had any problems with it.
i ran it after two months of having my new computer and it only picked up 2 registry entries, however on my dads pc (we share jetstart and he doesn't use Norton) it picked up loads of files and registry's

i assume you're talking about adaware? first of all dont load it on startup, thats pointless. just run a scane every month or so.

i used it to remove the ads in divx 5.02, and i'd recommend you do to (since i got divx 5.02 from you). it gets rid of that annoying process that it installs, so in theory it would decrease your load time by a second  :p

Only problem with removing the gain is that you disable all encoding functions. If you're only doing playback, just download the standard version, there's no need for the full version.

i do use the Pro features, Pre Processing is way kewl
and i just use a firewall (Zonealarm) to prevent GAIN from working in the first place

I have Norton internet protection 2002(firewall and antivirus) and whenever I use the close program dialog box to close the autoprotect it says it is not responding, I think this is designed that way so it is hard to turn it off, so that your computer is always protected. It is a bit annoying as it is best to turn off firewalls and antivirus stuff for some software installs.

I also have adaware, I like it I used it and it found quite a few strange reg entries as well as some dodgy looking programs hiding in my win dir...I also removed the cydoor ad DLLs used by alot of programs, but I have a replacement for it which someone wrote, all it does is tell the programs which query it that it is there and then return blank ads....
