I had to reinstall Windows again today .. everythings running mint but my MS Optical Mouse has gone all queer (not, see sig! :D )

When i move it goes all over the place and doesnt go where its supposed to :( ... I have the correct drivers loaded, I've fiddled with the setting but to no avail, any ideas?

reminds me of my old mouse (and i do mean OLD) it had a lil switch under it, cant remember what it was for but in the correct position the mouse worked fine, the the other position it would jump all over the show... :eek:

other then that i cant help u :confused:

Some OLD mice had a PS2 Serial switch. If you had it set on the wrong setting, it'd go all over the place!

It's a USB mouse, PS/2 sucks ... It's really pissing me off now, i can hardly move the mouse without it going all over the place, could the lasers be dirty or something?

The cable going from your PC to your mouse is probably stuffed... happens with microsoft mice sometimes, especially if they've had a hard life.

See if jiggling the cable affects anything.

Other then that open it up and give it a clean, blow dust out etc..

When you got it open take a look at the cable too, see how kinked it is.. see if you can see any breakage.

Thanks for that ragnor .. i tired fiddling the cable and cleaning the internals ... but i was just talking to SecretSquirrel on ICQ and he suggested turning off "Pointer Acceleration" (or something similar) .. and it worked, my mouse is back to normal, *bow down to the notgay squirrel*

You must've had pointer acceleration on full for effects that bad. Anyway, pointer acceleration is the most irritating thing with gaming.

hmm I have mine set to the highest, as I cant use it on a lower level. It means I hardly have to move my mouse to click on something.:D

I alway find the pointer acceleration f***ing annoying, as I turn around too fast. Takes getting used to I suppose.
