quick question!!

What should I do, im pretty much expected to turn up to a 21st on the same night as the LAN, I am planning on attending the LAN no matter what, but..

a) Do I skip the 21st and take the rap the next day.. ( will hurt )

b) Make an appearance for an hour or 2 then head back to LAN
( still hurt but not as much )

c) Pack up after a day of gaming and go to 21st for its entiraty which will be an all nighter???

Any ideas guys...

Valium

You'll only need to bring what you want to play, find out what other guys there are into. FPS's are normally common.

Oh, and piracy is bad - if I was to talk about it, I'd get monitored more closely in threads by moderators...

oh, and caffeinated beverages :D

The only (actual) tournament that is normally run is call of duty. We all got down and durty with the farcry demo last time though.

Don't worry too much - just bring yourself, your favourite games and plenty of HD space and you'll have a neat time.

just a qestion when i get to the lan do i just go set up my comp at my seat/desk or do i check in some where first

also how dose the setting up of the network go? will i be given an ip or somthing i can set up a home network but thats about it also do i need to bring a network cable?

Phatputer
14-04-2004, 10:54 PM
Just arrive, drop your computer in your allocated space then go sign in.. all pretty laid back. You get assigned an ip depending on where you are sitting type that in and your away. Install DC++ in some form or another and close off any windows shares as you don't want people hogging your bandwidth. umm thats about it

Nope, the DGE crew have the whole venue set up with cables to each individual seat so you don't need to bring yours :]

Don't worry what your case looks like; it's what's under the hood that counts! Anyway dude, just come along, everyone is nice and friendly, we aren't going to flame you because your case looks crap (that would make me a hypocrite, my case is a cheap huck of blinging beige too :p)

If you feel the need bring the computer in a modded cardboard box, it really doesn't matter as the event is designed for gaming.
The cool looking cases that some have is just a nice added bonus.

Can anyone give me an idea of what games people will be playing cause I’m in short supply. If I have any money I might buy some before the day

Also will anyone have the latest patches? As I’m on 56k It takes me a long time to get the latest one

Games I Have (multiplayer)

Battlefield 1942
Half Life game of the year collection (not that anyone plays CS any more)
UT 2003
Delta Force Black Hawk Down

Anyway, add to that list
Farcry
Battlefield 1942
Call of Duty

Usually when i get there people are playing cs1.5 *lol*

But then further into the lan once people have...the games ;) then people start playing CoD, Bf1942/DC, and any other popular shooters out there...heck it doesn't even have to be a popular game...once "Lamah" has his windows bootable duke3d cd with networking doing we'll be cranking that! :p

I also play (with lance etc) f1 challenge DTM mod which is good fun :)

casemodder

Because he broke the rules. Anyway, that's not the point, i know that Solid knows who Doom is, so the fact he is banned doesn't matter.

Would I be able to organise a group beta test session for my new UT2004 gametype? It's currently called Warfare (Interesting enough, Assault, OnSlaught and Warfare are all synonyms of each other) and it is still in the design phase. Basically what I will present to at DGE is a mock version. A mock version is basically the gametype code, which will have most of the ideas fleshed out but in sloppy and ugly code (Which you guys don't see anyways). You'll notice since it may run a little laggy. There will also be just a single map for us to have a romp on.

What is Warfare?
It is somewhat similar to a deviation of Onslaught although with enough twists and changes that it makes it interesting.

Basically, it is a team game. Red vs Blue. Each team gets a base with a power core in it. There are nodes that teams must collect in a Onslaught Link like fashion. The nodes however all link up to a factory in the middle of the map. Once a team has established a flowing link from their powercore to the factory, the factor powers up and starts to build a mammoth tank. The team that successfully builds a mammoth tank then is able to destroy the enemy powercore.

What makes this game a little hard is that only one team can 'own' the factory at one point. If both powercores are linked to the factory, the factory overloads and shuts down.

If the link is lost/broken during the building of a mammoth tank, the mammoth tank will degrade into nothingness.

The building phase of the mammoth tank can be increased if the building process is interrupted by incoming fire (Shoot it to make it take longer to build)

As soon as the tank is built, all power nodes are overloaded and are reset.

The mammoth tank is very weak, only coming with 100 health points. However as soon as there are more people in the vehicle the health status of the vehicle increase exponentionally. 2 people (300 Health), 3 people (500 Health). There will be a hard limit of 1200 health though.

Power cores can be both healed/destroyed by the deployed Mammoth Tank only.

Mammoth tanks can be stolen, although only 1 can exist on a map at any one time.

There is a little more complexities to the game, but that is about the gist of it. What I actually need to test here, is to find out whether or not this gametype is fun and if it is actual fact different to Onslaught by a large margin. On paper it seems like it ... but during playing it may not.

I was a bit disappointed with DGE this time around, a few network issues for some people with loss and what not. There weren't many people there compared to previous occasions, and people were only opening a few slots.... like 3 or so. I had a number of 'nix ISOs qued, but only got through half of them due to "no slots avaliable". That was prehaps the most anoying part of the whole LAN. However there was a good game of Black hawk down going with the other OCNZ guys. It made a nice change to the normal games that are played. I also played abit of UT2K4 before I called it a day at around 10pm on Saturday. Lots of people seemed to have left by then, I could tell it was going to be a long night of movie watching, limited leeching, and not alot of gamming like lans should be!

I will be more prepared for the next one, ie try to organise myself so I don't commit myself to a 21st the same night and also have work the same day.. but yeah enjoyed myself for the time I was there and im sure spoon enjoyed my screen while I was gone.

I think that this LAN just fell at a bad time for a lot of people, not sure why but it was a bit quiet.. I think Lance has a few things to change with the booking system to make it a bit harder to book a seat and not pay/ turnup ..

Graduation and super12 final = bad lan time.

Solid Snake
25-05-2004, 05:59 PM
Yeah that wasn't a whole lot of gaming going on. Towards the end of the night I just ended up doing leeching all of the time.

People were seemed to be having a hard time with UT2004 Onslaught so I didn't even bother with my own gametype Warfare which wasn't even ready anyways, but it was somewhat playable. But in any case, we didn't get to beta test it.

Whats with people leaving so early? Everybody was mostly gone in the wee hours of the morning ... oh well :)

See you guys at the next DGE I guess.
