whats security like at something like Gaggle?

Not that my box is flash by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd hate to have the ol' girl fall into some strangers paws.

To be honest I don't know as that will be my first LAN, but I'am assuming good since I haven't heard many, or any people complain.

I have been to most of the Gaggle lans and they have not had any computer equipment stolen.

The security is really good and they always have someone posted on the main (and only) door out keeping an eye on things.

If you do go to the next Gaggle make sure you sit near the rest of the OCNZrs and we'll keep and eye on your gear

Sweet, thanks for the offer.

I can't remember if it was here or some other new zealand forum, but I heard some poor bugger got his Thermaltake case (and contents) stolen from a Lan, although this one does seem to be a lot better run.

Might have to come along :)

aah yes the thermaltake case ... i believe that was stolen at the Equinox lan which was run by different organisers.

If you want to experience a really good and fun lan, then going to a Gaggle is a must.. you should try and come along to the next lan happening in June.

Another good lan to experience is Ping Zero.. there's just something about lanning and drinking beer at the same time ;)

The key to lan security is to make sure your gear is clearly identifiable ... ie, if you walk out with gear labled 'Grrr!!', then you will almost certainly be pulled up. It is also important to make sure that you sit with people you know and trust, who can watch over your stuff.

In general, I have never had problems leaving my stuff unattended at lans, though all my gear is easily stealable (my complete setup will fit in a large backpack).

Like grrr said, sitting with a group is the big one. If you know the person next to you, and they see someone other than you walking off with your stuff, then hopefully alarm bells sound...

actually with ping zero if something was pinched and you got away with making it out the door you would not get past the guard on the gate so can feel quite confident at leaving my gear unattended for long periods of time but it is something i wouldnt do if i were at somewhere like gaggle etc (not saying my gear would get pinched but always the chance if you get a dodgy bugger in there)

and grrr and sanchez it will be good to catch up with you guys again at the next ping zero but dont send me through the roof like you did last time lol

The guard at PZ has no idea what belongs to who, you could pinch half the PC's in the room and he'd not be concerned at all.

Just something to be aware of ;)

Gaggle security is a heap better than PZ

PZ == best lans in auckland without a doubt.
great people, great gaming and always a good laugh
great food provided aswell ;)

Gaggles are a tad short and steep for my liking but then again i am a cheap bum ;)
Eqnx was headed by mirage but geeknz did most of the work for him so you could say that box was nicked under their eyes but it doesnt matter anyway as thats in the past

As long as you sit with a bunch of mates your good. or if your at a smallerish lan where everyone knows everyone :)

[pimpage]

Lanholm 9 is on easter weekend :)
Just picked up a stupid amount of easter eggs from the warehouse to give out, along with a copious amount of sausages for the BBQ :)
Langear is giving us heaaaaaaaaaaaaaps of prizes so if your not up to much this weekend come drop by and have a game of BF:V or UT2k4 with us :)
only got about 5 spots left out of 60ish so if you want to spend the whole weekend there rego up now while theres still space;)

Excuse me?

GeekNZ did not even exist then, and only 3 people from the current GeekNZ crew helped work the event. I had next to nothing to do with the event bar turning up and helping move tables during set up. How about you check facts before spamming BS like that soggy.
