if you download the think client from intel's website, you cant be switched over to the anthrax project.
i reckon think's a lot better than seti. seti's kinda pointless (what's the chance of finding aliens) whereas think projects always have a purpose. i like the think website and client better than seti too :)

Mine: Duron 1200 / Tbird@1333

my brother doesn't have a net connection when hes at school so not much point in putting it on his.

celeron 850MHz @ 1.133GHz (crunching at night only)
dual celeron 366MHz @ 550Mhz (crunching hard out all day every day, except when i'm rendering)
but even tho i signed up quite early i didn't do any crunching for the first two months... i racked up about 26,000 points with just one machine (my trusty tbird), until about a fortnight ago when i added in two more rigs... now (as you can see below) i'm clocking up about 1,000 points a day :D (depending how much 3dsmax work/rendering i'm doing at any time).

well, last year SETI added about 600 hours on my account in one update which took me only 20 hours to do.
I've been doing about 1WU/6 hours on my duron 1GHz now, so everytime I update with a new WU, my average goes down by 1 hour.
Currently I'm running SETI in RAMDisk in Seti Driver and that seems to work the best and fastest. What do you guys use to make it work even faster?
Deviant
03-06-2002, 08:23 PM
How much does the Ramdisk help, cause it's not exactly accessing the HDD all the time.
Are you sure it doesn't access the HDD?
cause after running Seti for hours, WinME comes up with HDD FAT32 errors and BSOD. and then crashes.
Whereas it doesn't do that with RAMDisk.
For me, it also sped up SETI a bit too, maybe took it from like 7-8hours per WU down to about 6 hours.
KingJackal
03-06-2002, 09:17 PM
Lol man, I think you've got some other issues you need to deal with. The machine down the hall is using WindowsME, and crunching Seti 24/7. It generally has uptimes of 2-4 weeks....
Thought admittedly it's uptime ATM is only a measily 9days ( hardware change 9 days ago ) :(.
i know,
I'll do something about it when I get some time,

Woooow, I started crunching a WU, after 10% I set SetiDriver to do 2 processes at the same time, the first just finishes in 4:03mins, and now it reads 90.1% on the second W/U, estimated at 4:01mins.
I'm working double time, and the WU's take bugger all longer to do two at the same time.
I might try 3 at once!!
What do you think of that N!!

Umm.. If you're running an NT based OS, it'll keep track of the CPU time THAT particular seti process used, not the total CPU time..
Are you sure it didn't take 8 hours to do those 2 4 hour units?

OK guys with the BOINC going into a public beta (link in the sticky thread) I think we need to organise an OCNZ team ASAP! I was going to leave it to whoever is in charcge of the curent seti team to setup for consistancy reasons. However if they don't wish to for now I guess I could set it up and hand it over if appropriate later when it goes final and seti@home is replaced.
ALOT of people are avoiding BOINC due to serious security issues with it. Mainly due to the fact the software updates itself automaticly. Now sure once its out and is revised etc I doubt there will be any issues, but tons of people wont run it and are having their bosses who previously allowed seti to run on their work machines refusing to let it on the network.

Un substantiated reports
From a message hidden away in the seti@home-message-board:
We're basically waiting on some new hardware to arrive
which will vastly increase our ability to handle all the
current SETI@home classic users. These items will arrive
early in the new year. Once everything is configured,
everybody's being shifted to BOINC and classic will be
turned off for good.
Of course, with this new hardware, we will also be able to
turn BOINC pending credit back on.
Keeping classic SETI@home running forever will actually
be physically (as well as fiscally) impossible. We need
to cannibalize that hardware for BOINC, or turn it off
as our server closet cannot handle any more heat from the
