i know this was on the old forum but the old forums gone and i've only just got myself a second 15 inch monitor. it's running of an old 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 pci and its working sweetly. i have nview and the 29.42 dets, but theres a few things i cant figure out (yes i have used google :p):
1) is there any way to extend the taskbar onto the other screen (ie so the start button is on the left screen and the sys tray is on the right hand one)?
2) how do you set different desktops backgrounds for each screen?
3) is it possible to mirror the screens with a setup like this (different graphics cards??)
thanks in advance guys :)

You can get a program that does all of that but you have to pay for it, seeing as we are all cheap people, I am sure there are other myraid ways of doing it. I am sure King Jackal knows more about this!

With Windows:
1) NO
2) NO
3) NO
( now you know why we gripe about pathetic multi-monitor feature support in software )
With the Windows XP/2k Powertoys multimonitor extension:
1) NO
2) YES
3) YES
With nVIEW:
1) NO
2) YES ( In the nVIEW options panel - easy to find )
3) NO
With Hydravision:
1) NO
2) YES ( once again, very easy )
3) Not sure
With 3rd party programs:
1) Probably
2) YES
3) Probably
In short - go get nVIEW and the XP Powertoys installed, then you'll stand a chance ;).
nVidias twinview lets u "stretch" the toolbar across both screens, its an option that is ON by default i think... or was that OFF... o well, im close im sure :)
(thats for dual vid card... dont know about 2 vid cards)
win98 let me set 2 different resolutions, refresh rates, cant remember about bg's tho

hey thanks guys.
KJ: thanks for the info. i'm running win2k, and i already have nview installed. according to everywhere i've seen on the net the only powertoy for win2k is tweakui, which i have and it is no help. the xp powertoys obviously dont want to install. also even in the xp powertoys i cant find a multimonitor extension.
btw i dont have that option in the nview control panel (to set backgrounds). i'm running the 29.42 dets on a GF2 GTS, is that option available in a previous version? (screenshot of my nview below - no options tab)
oh well... back to searching for 3rd party programs (i've had absolutely no luck so far).
jeef: twinview is only available on all MX cards and GF4 Ti's (i think). i have a GF2 GTS :(. also it only works if both displays are on the same graphics card, not the case for me. win2k also lets me set different refresh rates and resolutions thankfully.
*searches*
/edit:
i found a wallpaper button on the desktops tab, but it sets both monitors to one desktop. i cant figure out how to set "desktop2" on the second monitor while retaining the default desktop on the first. i dont think this is the right feature...

Keep looking. You're staring at the right place - I'm almost certain you can do multiple backgrounds in there?
BTW, multi-monitor and multi-DESKTOP are very similar and complementary things. If you can't find power-tools for multi-monitors, try those for multi-DESKTOPS, cos you can set which desktop is displayed on which screen ( and they should be able to be the same, or different in any order, etc ;) ).
And dual output is only on the following:
GeForce2 MX/MX200/MX400
Quadro2 EX/MXR
GeForce4 MX420/MX440/MX460/Ti4200/Ti4400/Ti4600
Quadro4 200NVS/500XGL/550XGL/700XGL/750XGL/900XGL
And QUAD OUTPUT ( BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA ) on this card:
Quadro 4 400NVS
There you have it - even the humble GeForce2 MX200 can do things the GeForce3 Ti500 can only dream of.....
;) :D

I am pretty sure that works both way.
I have a matrox G400 at work (19inch Sony and a 17 Dell crap one), and I have been tempted of recent to get a Quadro4 200NVS as they are pretty cheap(ish).
Would love to have a full dual head card that could play some half decent games too. anyone had a play with one?

Can anyone tell me why DVI - VGA converters cost so much? $32 seems to be excessive for such a tiny little lovemuscle.
Grrr!!

I actually can't tell you, other than that Video equipment manufacturers are greedy.
If you need one, you might be better off to spend a little more on the video card and get one free :D.

We've already bought them (three of us, three converters required!) and Leadtek didnt supply them :( Nevermind, somewhere, some time, someone will have them in a less nasty pricearea...DSE maybe?
