re: this thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/announcement.php?s=&forumid=13).

Recently, one of the trademarked names owned by Karna LLC inc. has been banned from discussion in these forums. Despite the obvious connotations, this means that true gamers will not be informed of the true potential that their fragging has.

As such, I will continue in my crusade to keep you informed. However, the two banned names, which are the names of the mice available for purchase Razerzone (http://www.razerzone.com).

These two mice will hence be referred to as the 'I Wish I Had An Intellimouse 1000' and the 'I Wish I Had An Intellimouse 2000'.

Discussion of the Mamba may proceed as normal.

question: KJ how have you found using the "I Wish I Had An Intellimouse 2000" in XP. Also Does in work in teh L1nU><? If it doesn't do you know if they are planning on creating drivers for it?

Yes, I'm thinking of getting one.

Either razer product will work in any OS.

In Linux, you simply install it as a standard 5 button USB mouse with scroll button ;). You don't get all the fancy features - but then, you don't for optical's either :D.

Using my 'non-optical-0wnage 2000' in XP is fine, it's just that I can't independantly change X-axis and Y-axis speed settings. Nor can I use on-the-fly sensitivity.

The same would apply to any of the optical mice. You could use them in Linux, but their extra features won't work. Linux for the most part will allow you to use any hardware as you would expect provided it isn't a POS win-<INSERTHARDWARETYPE> like Winmodems.

( win-modems and the like actually do most of their work in software on the CPU, NOT in hardware at all. That's why they're slower, cheaper, and require a certain OS )

im thinkng of purchasing the logitech cordless freedom blah blah
wireless optical. unfortunately $179 is no cheap for a mouse.
but at least they have much better product reliability than the
'non-optical-0wnage 2000'

HUH? All the peeps that I know with a 'non-optical-0wnage 2000' have said that it was the best gaming mouse that they had ever owned :p

I've seen a prototype of a virtual keyboard, whichprojects the layout of a keyboard onto any flat serface (ie. desk) and then recognizes which fingers move where and works out what key you were "pressing". That'd work..... depending on how hard you tap the desk.

Then all you have to do is replace the mouse. :D

Those light keyboards would preddy kewl. But the blind would be absolutrly knackered :)

1 word: gimmicky

yes it would look cool but imho it would be hopeless. i type without looking at the keyboard most of the time and i only take the odd glance to see where my hands are since most of my typing is done by touch. such a style would be impossible with a "virtual keyboard".

I thought Razer went out of business early last year sometime? Huh...
That 'Mamba' one still looks like a steaming heap of crap though.

Hopefully the HIT lab that they are setting up at Canty is going to sort out some of the problems.

Sorry about that, can't comment - the auto-KJ-auditor is quite quick :( :D....

They were actually toying with the idea of going optical, but they needed extremely high sample rates ( 10k's, not just thousands per second ). I reckon it would be good to see them try to compete in the optical arena - especially if it drags their prices down at all ( which are really the most cripling feature of their mice :( ).
