heres what I think
1. yes why not....... say you dont make any money from it.... but say you copy a cd and give it to a friend and they go into mass production on it.......
2. definately not
3. No
4. I would say yes to this but it is a bit iffy cos you are not supposed to reproduce material without the expressed permission of the holder of the copyright .... but hey whos going to catch you...... no wait the government open all the mail ;)
5. No unless.... you obtian permission from the author and reference it as such on your site.....
6. Depends on the licensing agreement...... ie if the author has provided it so it can be improved etc.... but you still need to say it isnt 100% your work and give some/most of the credit to the original author
7. It really depends on the video...... if you go down to blockbuster and hire XXX big lasses do vegas XXX and show it to 400 people then I beleive that it is illegal......... if it is a 'proper' educational video as opposed to the aformentioned educational video it was more than likely purchased with provisions for mass broadcast..... however it still doesn't allow you to copy it and then show it........
8. why the hell did I use numbers instead of letters

Intellectual & copyright on the internet are stil a very grey area due to the nature of most western legal systems.

Money is insignificant from what I can remember. It would be included in any such remedys and considerations, but a breach of copyright is a breach of copyright - it just varies in the significance of the breach.
b. Does an author renounce copyright privileges when a work appears online?
No.
c. Does an author need a Copyright notice for it to be protected?
No. It just makes things easier if they do declear it.
d. Can I download a Web page and legally mail a print copy to a friend?
e. Can I scan a newspaper photograph and legally put it online?
Both grey areas. Very debatable.
f. Can I alter files and make those files legally available online?
Depends on the files.
Also remember that most aspects of intellectual property rights can be debated either way.
Grrr!!

As for a teacher showing a video in class ... no ... except for one or two which the Depertment of Education has permission for (such as Romeo + Juliet). Then again, my school just dubbed students copies of a video, and really broke copyright big time!
Thanks very much for your answers guys, very much appreciated :p

I thought that they sued you for the damages that occur..
i.e. if u sold 5 units, then they can sue you for how much profit they would have made if they would have sold the gears to those people..
prolly not the best response :)
Grrr!!

I think that is only the case when you are a pirating business, and not a mere individual, or something like that.
