Having bought one of these (attached) "Nokia C910 PCI PCMCIA adapter" I installed in a free PCI slot and started up.
Windows started fine but some of my startup things loaded sluggishly, especially the network connections.
The plug and play installer icon then showed up on the taskbar but wouldn't disappear, even after 5 minutes. I went into device manager and could see the PCMCIA adaptor in there, but the device couldn't start because it had no drivers. THEN device manager crashed. From here I couldn't do much at all so I had to press reset.
I rebooted and the windows bootup stalled at the WinXP startup logo (animation continued). I tried leaving this for 30 minutes to see if it was a one time only thing and would continue, but this wasn't to be. I pressed reset. I booted into SAFE MODE. Safe mode crashed at mup.sys.
I took out the PCMCIA adaptor and WinXP started perfectly like nothing had happened. So I rebooted and installed the card, but in a different PCI slot this time. It got into windows, but stalled alot quicker this time. I have since tried 3 different PCI slots. I have also tried booting with a wireless card in the PCMCIA slot, which didn't help. I can get nowhere near device manager now.
This is a pain in the ass :( Can anyone lend a hand?
