View Full Version : Sneak peek ;)
Well a mate (Chi of these very forums) and I are doing a phase change system........ I know that this is not a new concept  but the cool thing about this one is the size :D W x D x H 170mm x 250mm x 170mm :D This wee baby will fit nicely in a full tower case :D This is still under construction (Hence the G[H]etto look) but it should be finished soonish then it's on to the test rig...... don't ask me any technical questions coz I don't know the answers

This aint a teccie question, more an aesthetic one. . .
Is that radiator a homemade box full of copper tubes? Coz thats what it looks like. Ingenious. Looks like a McGyver cooler :)

If you have no idea about the techinical questions, then why are you making a cooling system as advanced as this? Do you have any more details, preliminary results maybe?
The condenser is actually just a copper pipe in an old electrical box with a 120mm fan attached on the side closest to the compressor........ we haven't yet decided on a final condenser.
As for why are we making this...... well we can...... Chi has a BE mech and works as refrigeration consultant....... so that's why I don't really need to know any of the technical stuff :p
It's not finished yet coz niether of us have a fridgies cert so no results as yet..... I just couldn't wait :D
BTW if you saw that thing on top of the condenser please forget it. Thank you ;)
Grrr!!

* Grrr!! wonders what was on top of the condenser.
Anyway, it will be nice when everything is finished and installed in a case!

damn same i want to know whats under it, and just a thought how big is the air con unit in a car? Or you can just go vapochill :p
Go VapoChill??? Well if you've got...... oh about $1400AUS to give me then I'd go vapochill but it not as much fun as getting your friend to make you one :p

heh, does this Chi guy know *LOTS* about phase change? Ive been looking around for a talk to a HVAC engineer, but cant seem to find one. Everyone else i talk to doesnt know n e thing about what im gonna be doing.

There's nothing that complicated about phase change... it's been around since Tesla invented the compressor and sold the patent to Westinghouse to use in refrigerators.
Compress a gas into a liquid, remove the heat from the compression (see Boyles law), use a pressure dropping valve to convert the liquified gas back to a gas (the cold part) then recirculate.
You should be able to find all the info you need with google and a rainy day in front of ya monitor.
ps don't you hate it when people black out part of a photo and then tell you to ignore it

OCTools have a good article about Phase Change. But from the sounds of Volo's post it looks like he might have something different to throw into the equasion (sp?).
And yes I do. :D

yea, yea i do :)
ive been chatting to the phase change guy off procooling and he cant help me, he just said to go and talk to an HVAC engineer.
Im building a cascaded phase change, and i need a talk to HVAC engineer to sort out the inside loops compressor, and particulary the refridgerant. As far as i know, the refridgerant of the inside loop needs to condense at the outer loops evaporator temp. This is all sweet, and i need to find a refridgerant that will condense at X degrees. But it all gets more complicated when you throw in the suction of the compressor, because as you know the more pressure you have, the higher temp the refridgerant will condense(i think, i know the more vacuum it will evap at a lower temp). bla bla bla...it all comes out i need some formulas i dont have, so i needa talk to a HVAC engineer :)
BTW, i have looked around the net, and theres crap all on cascaded phase change, i think ive seen it mentioned twice.
Hey Volo...
...yeah, i can definitely help u out with a cascade system.
However, y don't i give u my email address and we can correspond there. I can't reply to the forums from work, big brother is watching i think.
But my email is cyling@tycoint.com. We can discuss your requirements there.
Cheers
:)
