Well now that I've done the hard yards to get over 10 posts :D
I am looking at making my own avatar. Are there any programs anyone can recommend. I am new to the whole animated GIFs bit but have experience with Photoshop, Freehand etc.

Thanks

Macromedia Fireworks is better at exporting images that Photoshop.
I do the initial work in PS, then use FW to open it, touch up, then export.
The Export Wizard is quite helpful

This gets my vote as well. I haven't tried any others, but still this one is easy and good to use.

i agree... i found paintshop pro far easier to latch onto than photoshop, even though i have more experience with photoshop... for some reason i prefer photoshop for trasparency management, and i prefer psp for layering... *shrugs*

Ok, I've checked the faq but it doesent mention anything about sizes and stuff for the gifs. I take it the max res is 65*65, but what about file size? is there a limmit to that?

Oh and I've always used psp too. Tried photoshop before but it didn't seem as user friendly:rolleyes:

i use photoshop and imageready, only coz it's what i've always used i haven't come across anything that they can't do (so i've never really tried using anything else).

for my little thing i rendered a much bigger version out of 3dsmax as an AVI, which i loaded into combustion to do some colour correction and a few other things, then loaded it into ImageReady and exported as a GIF.

Max filesize for this site is 20k, mine is 19 to give you an idea. If you get it over 20k then upload it and I will upload it to my webspace for ya to use.

I'm nice like that

Yeah it ain't a good look advertising that you've got a celery, unless it has been OCed heaps or something.

*grumbles off moaning about celeron*

what the HELL is wrong with celerons?
:D

Absolutely nothing wrong with a CeleronT -especially a 1000a overclocked to 1500+ with some kick ass CAS 2-2-2-5 PC150 RAM on a kickass motherboard that can handle the jandle:)

Kick a PIV Willy in the goolies anyday:)

Oooh ahhh a celeron T .. pfft...

For less money you can get a Duron (morgan core), KT266a mobo, 256m DDR Ram which at stock speed will kick the snot out of the celeron even when it's overclocked and the duron ain't....

true price/performance is dubious cf. the Duron (Morgan) for a new purchase, but the CeleronT overclocked past 133FSB isnt a slow or weak CPU at all, unlike previous versions of the Celeron.

Both on a 150Mhz FSB wont be slow. If someone already had a BX chipset or Tualatin capable board, the upgrade path isnt a bad one. Some people are running their old Abit BH6 v1.1's that they used back in the day for the 'Celeron300A to 450 overclock' now with CeleronT's at 1333MHz. Not a bad lifetime for a motherboard at all -thats good value for money.
