Sounds like Microsoft have a surprise with SP1, that may stop you (at least for a while) by requiring a new key if you install SP1.

It has been discused before.
I was just wondering, does it actually send your CDKEY to a database and check for duplicates, or only iliminate CDKEYs which people have put accross the internet?

[sigh] KeyGen?
There is always a way around MS and other companies anti-hacks.
Someone sits out there on their computers doing just that all day, every day...
Eventually I think the software companies are just going to make their own version of Echelon and listen for warez kiddies conversations, track them down, and fvck them up...
I hope they get it on video, it would be worth a laugh.

oh great I can just see it now, I'll be sitting at home mindlessly channel surfing late at night, and then the new 'RealTV' show comes on...'When good War3z goes bad'
but anyway, I think all that sp1 does is check your code against a list of compromised ones which MS already knows about

Its a temp measure at best, Maybe a week before someone out there finds a way around it. It wont stop the casual piracy among friends tho, which i think is the biggest problem.

To be honest, "casual" piracy amoung friends is probably the BIGGEST and WORST form of piracy. One upon a time it was likely to be recommended to a friend, and today you just give a friend a copy.

Anyway all users of the bad cdkeys would have to do is wait until some 1337 Ha><0R releases a 'patched' version of the SP and install that, and hope that it doesn't turn their computer into a quivering mound of jello.
Although I am sure you can trust a warez hacker to not install trojans/backdoors etc.......
