there was so little to leech at the last one.. and the only competition run was call of duty..

I thought the gaming consoles were a good idea though..

Chris
14-02-2004, 04:00 PM
Charge more and put some of the entry fee towards two inch steaks and keep a BBQ running all day (and obviously all night)

Make sure we've got some kind of stupid promenade style rain cover incase it (duh) rains..

I don't know why im suggesting improvements to DGE on the OCNZ forums...

Hrm..

Well, i read them and pass them on? :]

Yeah there wasn't enough to leech at the last one, but that was just an excuse to play more games.

Should be some more comps this time

21" CRT?!?!?! are you nuts?? do you want to have your KB on your lap or somthing :p .. Have you got an RSI deathwish..
But in all honesty.. do you have a crane or just a wish for a broken back?

The tables there are quite narrow.. but do as you please.

(no really don't take it i don't want to be out epenis'ed in monitor size!!!!)

How does a BBQ Tea then a BBQ brunch sound? (brunch because i'll be going home at like 2am then comming back like 10am so we could have a feed once i get back).

I am getting too old for staying up allnight then going all day. SO i'll just go home for a sleep and come back in the morning and stay until the thing is over at 3pm.

I've got an old BBQ sitting here, if no one else is taking one, or Lance can't organise one.

I'm good at cooking steak...and thats it :]

Definately taking less junk food this time around. Must get me some more cheese buns.

Wonder if Lance will have his 21" LCD by then ? :]

casemodder
15-02-2004, 02:51 PM
Well i'm taking my BBQ, bring yours too Mr Tim. Just have a cook up for our mates, even if lance does organise one, i will still bring my own alot less of a hassle to get things you want cooked etc.

Yes i heard lance was getting a 21" LCD.. did he win lotto or something!?!?!?!

opaque
15-02-2004, 06:18 PM
Okies, i'll chuck mine on the list of things to take ;].

Organise some cheap, good steak as well.

Also, get posting some ideas for comps, i was thinking sc/wc3 but only a few there play it...maybe some q3a 1v1's

Chris
15-02-2004, 07:56 PM
Q3 although being a great game is really whorish to LAN with because its so frickin pissy about which copies of the game it'll let connect to one another.. I had to play doom last time with his copy of the game and config because mine, dispite being the same version, wasnt compatible with his.. it sucked lots..

Last time I don't think anyone played WC3 because no one had the same version, and -no one- had the 1.14b patch..

Three awsome games for LAN comps tho.

casemodder
15-02-2004, 08:10 PM
Well it has to be said:

Battlefield Desert Combat.

I propose 6 v 6 matches. Then again if we can't get about 4 - 5 teams .. lets just have a free for all normal LAN game.

Wolf ET

That would be my next choice. Prizes for person with the most XP in each area, i.e. Medic, Sniper, Engineer, Special Ops, etc.

And then an overall team prize, again about 6 v 6 would be nice.

So true about Q3, last time we managed to get 4 or 5 people with versions that worked..so yeah.

I'll make sure i have all the wc3/starcraft patches this time around, halo would be a pretty fun comp for the people who like it. Looks like the COD 5v5 comp is a definate this time round again.

Well there is no age limit, Lances kids run around playing xboxs etc. Don't see why you shouldn't be allowed.

Most people there are reasonably tolerant of young people but yeah, as long as you're not annoying/immature, then sweet as :]

Otherwise you get airgunned. :D

i'm 17, and have been lanning since i was 12 so there shouldn't be any problem.

like opaque said, most of the people are pretty tolerant, and will accept you so long as you are not a tool

Hmm time for another Hard drive me thinks.

Does anybody have any problems if I'm running slightly slower gear than everyone else, ie. overclocked p3 with overclocked geforce 2?

For Elliot
You need a network card, this is the device you link up with everyone with, ill be bringing along a few spare ones if failure occur, but I seem to remember Lance saying last time it went pretty smoothly apart from 1 or 2 machines not going onto the network. He may have a few extra cards umm if you look on the back of your computer there should be what looks like a modem hole but bigger.

FKF
18-02-2004, 10:20 PM
IIRC, the machines that couldn't get onto the network the last couple of times were only NF2 onboard LAN ones, so if you have one of those, might pay to bring a spare. Having said that, my NF2 connected sweet as.

Having now seen probably upwards of a dozen ( or two  ) nForce 1/2 onboard NIC's die @ L3's, I'd trust an nForce NIC about as far as a gnat could spit it.

They suck, get a PCI card. Nuf said :p.

Phatputer
19-02-2004, 12:53 AM
Mmm that would explain my problems with these network cards on Gigabyte boards I have installed lately, although we put through a fairly large amount of these I have had 2 either fail totally or just cause some serious problems with the system when attempting to use them, NICS are cheap ended up throwing them in and disabling onboard LAN.. hmm fun

19-02-2004, 10:13 AM
We had this big ass P4 2.8 with like 2GB ram for a server at one LAN and the dumb ass Onboard LAN died so we didnt even use it :D DOH
OK Im going to do a Quake1 Comp 1vs1 There will be prize as in Pizza or the such :)
Mye goes to dig up old disks and find QuakeWorld Stuff....... if I can remeber the server commands :D

Chris
19-02-2004, 12:26 PM
very few people will want to run a capture program or the internal Q3 movie maker.. burns alot of gas and some peoples machines arnt likely to have that gas spare (I'm fine.. i'm just thinking of other people :D )

but your right, nothing quite like having peoples moments of gaming shame recorded for all to giggle at..

thats rubbish Lance :) the bare minimum for gaming machines these days is at least a 3ghz processor with a graphics card that cost enough to make a banker cringe. Clear side panel on case gets entry in door and lots of lights gets you a good spot!! if you don't have a DVD Writer don't expect to be getting anyone elses shares... etc etc etc..

PC doesn't have to be much as long as there are other people willing to play the games that you play then you are set for a good time.

Well my preparations have begun for the LAN (BF:V Training!!). As i may have said somewhere above, i will be playing mainly games that are new to me. These may include:
Need For Speed: Underground (not that new, just need to show off my rice :p)
Battlefield: Vietnam
Blitzkrieg
Lock On
Americas Army
UT2k4 (If its out!!, if its not then the demo)

That should keep me amused for many hours of fun. Anyway: to those that haven't paid, make sure you do so.

Well, the case is rice and tidy, all cables out of sight (mostly) fishtank on the side, led spreader at the front, LEDs spotlighting the CPU cooler. (Comon guys, Lance needs abit of competition with some more fish there, and leds etc!!).
Vietnam is loaded on ready for some action as well!

Anyway I look forward to seeing you all there!

I had fun. Now off to bed. I hoped to be home 3 hours ago, but had to leach the last of those linux isos and chipset drivers.

Well write a roundup after sleep time :)

It was too far out for me being in North Dunedin with no car. Oh well, I think Dunedin OCNZer's need a gathering at some stage.

Those are some good chipset drivers aye Dusty ;). Well i arrived at DGE with a single 60GB harddrive, and left with 2 60s and a 40, (Thanks very much FKF) needless to say, i now only have about 5GBs free over all my drives, i leeched alot of chipset driveres, and 'nix ISOs. Vietnam was fun, Far Cry was ... interesting, UT2k4 look cool although i installed the demo i never got arround to playing it  However i did have a good ol' game of UT orginal.. it rocked. A few races in NFSU was also good. Now back to sorting all those 'nix ISOs.

Oh FKF... post pics!!

This is Mr D. Slapper, downloading chipset drivers and looking very happy about it.

Next to him is Mr Valium, also looking very happy about something. I think perhaps the slapper has his hand on Valium's leg.

Haha Gary, good work :]

How was the bbq etc etc, the barina hold up alright? :D

Spoon
28-03-2004, 09:55 PM
There was no BBQ. I got cheap cheap pizza instead. Good ol' student ID means $7.50 pizza instead of the 'DGE Special' of $8.

But yeah, a good night, kinda finished a bit early. About half the people had left when I did at 6am. Disturbingly enough I came home with 95gb of free space, not sure whats up with that. Anyone wanna sponsor DGE some nice big gigabit switches for faster leeching ;)?

dustyslapper
28-03-2004, 11:10 PM
Yeah - the leeching, while there was a lot of linux to go for, sucked. I was only getting around 2mbs at the fastest, and often was uploading and downloading in the "k"s rather than the "m"s.

Bring on the big bad backbone!

Hardware limitations aside however (I know that Lance can only work with the gear he has) I think that it was a very good night. The COD tournament was a good time. I'm keen for more. :)

Those were some WICKED chipset drivers... i've just spent the day selling them to third formers.. uh i mean using them to make my motherboard run faster... yeah, thats it....

anyhoo, i had wicked fun, came home with a few megs of hard drive left *shakes fist at 2x 80gb HDD's*

'cept for my system which picked saturday to start having hissy fits for no reason. oh well.

Anyone wanna sponsor DGE some nice big gigabit switches for faster leechinTweet tweet, you guys do know I am in Dunedin right? I have two switches here that are capable of a gigabit pipeline between them sitting in my room doing nothing....

I'll see if I can have a chat with DGE.

I still managed to upload around 160Gb, and last I heard Eccles had done over 200Gb. I think the UT2K4 and FarCry "demos" made for a much bigger quantity of network traffic, thus slowing things down a bit. Howver, I'm not complaining at all, I got all the drivers and ISO's I wanted.

I'm guessing early in the AM before I arrived. Was pretty full from early evening until about 3am when people started to leave... When I left at 6am maybe half the people were gone.

it would appear so, i'm still using my wireless keyboard in that photo (its on my lap, hence there being no keyboard on the desk), and my wireless setup died around noon on the saturday. mysteriously, its working fine now.
