I am in the market for a new mobile phone, needs to be purchasable from Vodafone as this is who work has a contract with.

Thinking about one of the following three, leaning towards the Sony at this stage.

Motorola v525 (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobiles/gen/mobile_details_motorola_v525.jsp?hd=foryou&st=mobiles)

Sharp GX-10i (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobiles/gen/mobile_details_sharp.jsp?hd=foryou&st=mobiles)

Sony Z600 (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobiles/gen/mobile_details_sonyericssonz600.jsp?hd=foryou&st=mobiles)

Anyone own any of these phones or heard anything about any of them?

What about the Alcatel 735 (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobiles/gen/mobile_details_alcatel_735.jsp?hd=foryou&st=mobiles&ss=pxt) . It's smaller, lighter, cheaper, does't have an antenna that sticks out, talk time twice as long.

Fold up phones look cool for a while, but when you open them you automatically answer the call. Other phones you can see who's ringing and so you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Oh, and fold up phones are also quite thick so you don't want them in your shirt pocket.

These are just my preferences.

From my experiances with the GX-10i and the Z600 i would perfer the Z600. The GX-10's and the 10i's have not got a very good hinge design and i have seen many of them have the hinges break or have the wires to the screen break.

The motorolla's i havn't used personally but i have heard that the camera isint as good as the sharps or the sonys, and has trouble in extremely bright, or extremely dark enviroments.

The alcatels i wouldnt touch dispite their low price tag. The keypads and the joystick thing are prone to failure with only a few months of use.

The Sony's screen is not good in sunlight and fingerprints show up very easily like on the T610's. Whereas the Sharp's show up better in sunlight.

All the phones have their up's and down's, But I would personally go with the Sony as I have never had major problems with their phones (I have a T610), whereas I have had a Sharp GX10 literaly fall apart at the hinge and the screen fall off, although that was most likely due to a hard life.

I would go with the Z600 just because it is what I want. I think that a lot of the clamshell phones have a visible small LCD to see who is calling.

I second that. I know 5+ people that have alcatels thats joystick has broken (and buttons) after a few months.

the motorola is too heavy I reckon. I have had a motorola before and the OS was crap, far too confusing.

Sharp? Too heavy, too far, and I would be surprised if the standby and talktime were accurate.

I reckon the Nokia 6100 or 6600 would be best. I have the 6600 on Vodafone at the moment, and think it is a great phone, good size, good wieght, good screen, good sounds, and good battery life, plus the friendly OS will never be beaten.

My stepson has the 6100, it is basically the same as the 6600 but smaller, and would be the one I would go for on Telecom.

I also have a telecom contract, with which I have a Kyocera Slider, not nearly as nice as the 6100, but Telecoms choice of phones is limited.

mightybob snake works for vodaphone.

But Ive played with those alcatells and i think they are great, the games on it are cool as too and for its price i would say there is no competition.

But out of the phones you selected the gx10i would be the best because it has a better screen than the sony, and i doubt the hinges would break that easily. Youd have to mis-treat it a lot.

You lot must be dam nice to them there phones ;)

i’m on my 4th and the old man is on his 16th odd phone

if your working then they don’t last long and most of our phone we wear out :( (2 got water in them :p)

If there was no way that you Motorola v525 then go for a Nokia, the sheep phone are ok if you want to buy lots of them :(

We get new phone (cos of how we are and what we do) when our one give up.

If I had my way I would go for the Motorola (if It was me getting it)

What ever you do run away from Kyocera I have a 2235 and a 2250(I think ?) but they are crap phones.

Any way happy shopping :)

The Z600 has a proper TFT screen and looks really good under direct sunlight, you're not wrong about hte T610 tho

I have the T610 and its pretty nice (except for the screen) but I didn't want a Z600 cause i'm not into this folding phone crap - reminds me of a little girls toy. I keep thinking I'm going to snap it in half.

Oh and if you are getting a "flip" phone stay clear of the sharp, go the Z600 instead

I've gone off the nokias recently

stear clear of the sharp series, motorola v525 is nice, bluetooth, quad band etc, nokia 6600 is also very very worth it, research your choice wisely and take time

Some fold up phones have the option to automatically answer or not answer when it is flipped open.

Vodafone doesn't do the Nokia 6600, only the 3650, 6100 and 7250i as their high end phones

Seeing as i work at a mobile phone repair place....
I can easyly say the new Motorola is the best - They were released 3 months back - all the shops only got 10per store - they sold out in 1 day.
New shippment arrived this week, Good price for so many features.

The Z600's are good tho a tad pricey

GX10i don't bother - waste of cash not to mention the huge amount of them with screen faults.
GX20 so damn expencive its not funny.

I would also recommend the Sony/Ericsson T610 - very good solid phone.

Oh and for the record stay away from 027 phones - if only you knew how many need to be repaired you'd be shocked

A buddy of mine who works for Unisys at Vodafone made these comments:

I have played with 2 of them, GX-10i and V525, but only from a Vodafone Live point of view.

-The v525 ran terribly on vLive, but might be ok for calls/sms/pxt.
-The GX-10i runs vLive well, and is abit lighter and compact than the v525
-I haven't seen or played with the Z600 but its software looks alot like the T610, which is a decent phone.

Looking at the stats on the vodafone site I think the sony sounds good with much longer talk time & blue tooth.

Other than vlive I dont really how well the phones operate, but I think either the GX-10i or the V600 usually have nice intuitive interfaces, good features and generally run well.

the sharp gx20 is all good :) the resolution of the camera is great for a phone, and the two screens are sharp (pun not intended).

i've got a couple of those phones in for mates, and they're always good when out on the turps ;) :ninja:

but i can add that yes, sacrificing body parts to the electrical gadget gods is worth it for this one :)
