Hey guys, looking at getting a printer for printing out digital photos. Have a 4 Megapixel camera, so want something that can do 2400dpi. Preferably under $500, USB and that's about it.
I've read the reviews but I want to know if anyone here's got any recommendations.
Cheers
you are looking at pro-business class.
don't get lexmark,
you don't have the $$ for colour laser, so you'll have to get an inkjet,
I use HP and they are good,
do you really need 2400dpi? cause it's kinda hard, if you use photo paper on a normal cheap 250$ HP DeskJet 8xx you can get really nice quality.

epson, epson AND epson.
epson own for photo-qual prints
-BUT-
fun fact: epson printers require a yearly service (some people will say they are unreliable.. these people are normally ones who are unaware of the need for regular professional maintenance)

Epson. Slow but very good.
Whetu, what was this about yearly service. Our Stylus 600 and Stylus 640 have never been serviced, is there a reason to service them?

keeps them in optimal operation.... I must have spent a good 2 weeks trying to figure out why my parents neighbour's one was packing a poop... he eventually took it to a printer tech who told him epsons require a yearly service  the printer came back good as new :D

My printer is still as good as new. I must not be printing enough :D.
Anyway, my parents Epson Stylus 640 has a weird problem. When their computer is switch on when the printer is on, then the thing comes up with an FDC Failure at BIOS level. Don't ask me why, something with the printer.

hmm... maybe I should have specified that it must be colour too (which really only leaves inkjets to consider still).

But I have a Kodak digital camera. :(.
Anyway, I think the new kodak's can actually have Windows CE flashed onto them, and that would be better than needing a special printer.

I have always been an Epson man myself, buy I read a great review reciently with about 12 printers in it, and Epson had lost their grip. HP were a clear second, with Cannon on top.
Try and find a good review with many printers in it.

Toms Hardware had a printer review recently, but the results seem to conflict with those on other sites!!!

Well... for those interested, I got a HP948C (under $400 including GST and some photo paper). Awesome quality... you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference with a proper photo and I've only used standard photo paper (still waiting for my premium photo paper which is on back order).
So yes, I'm happy...
I got it online from corpcons.

Wicked :D
On a somewhat related note, are you printing stuff you have taken with your digicam?
I had some of my photos printed @ the local place, was amazed @ the quality just from 1280/960 @ medium quality.
Digicams have moved up in these recent years :D
*attempts to stay on topic*
How quick is it per photo?
Cartriges would cost a bundle?

Anyone know how cheap scanner/fax/printer combo machines go?
Individually I was looking at a Canon S300 for $280ish + scanner + my **** old paper roll fax, S300s have reviewed well at Cnet and other places and I think HP's cost more on ink usage.
Id rather use less space tho of course assuming reliability is fine with the all-in-ones.
Hotchips are doing the HPv40 Combo for $500 which has good printing specs but teh scanner looks crap but thats not so important, scanner is a semi-toy for me. Also there is the Brother one advertised on telly at Noel Leemings, anyone had experience of Brother products (please dont say sewing machines heh) or cheap/inkjet combo machines?

I haven't sold them in about a year and a half, but by god those printer scanner combos used to suck.

Don't EVER buy one of those onboard scanner thingies. 10 cent photocopies from the Warehouse are a better quality.
