Asus actually making a good value for money card

Read this review (http://www.amd3d.com/review/v8420/)

And note this is for the 128mb version.

Prices in NZ roughly $485-560

Thoughts ?

A value for money Asus. The that is great. Somehow it makes the world seem to come to an end though ;).

I saw that a while ago on a foreign site. Notice how it's using the ti4600 pcb. The foreign site even pulled off the purple 8420 sticker on the pcb and underneath it said 8460 ultra. NICE !:)

I'm ashamed of you guys. ASUS's and their dirty vid cards are demon spawn.

They incorporate 'cheat' software into their drivers, ffs. ASUS are targeting the 'kiddy' market - kids who can't handle losing will buy these types of cards, it can ruin the online gaming experience when stupid little 12 year olds think they are cool for cheating, but in actual fact they are just being a pain in the arse. But that's kids for ya.

And yes I know you could use the plain nVidia drivers instead, but it's the principle that sh*ts me.

I refuse to look at that link, it's ASUS ffs!!!..... I wouldn't even touch anything asus. My mates ASUS DDR266 ScktA mobo can't even oc in the bios (and I 'aint even gonna waste my time opening up the case) *AND* there's no 4way setting for the ram either!!... now how am I going to work my ocnz magic with that heap of junk. :D

Sure it may be good quality but it still blows the goats well.
Gimme a Soltek anyday :)

SECONDED.

I will never support ASUS again ( yes, my first 3D cards were ASUS, but never since ).

Leadtek and Gainward are the main staple of the OCers :D Then there's some up and coming brands such as TripleX :p

I think it would be more PC Companies fault rather than the Asus board.
They are usually pretty decent OCers.

Nope, not humble at all.

How many companies released drivers for their cards with inbuild wallhacks? One - ASUS. How many had their cards almost banned off every gaming server in the planet in protest and had to scrap the drivers quick fast? One - ASUS. How many didn't apologise? Just ASUS.

AND HOW MANY WENT AND DID IT A SECOND TIME? You guessed it.....

PLEASE explain how that isn't some of the most f**ked up business ethics for competitive gamers? Please - I'd LOVE to hear how......

Actually ECS released "wallhack" drivers for their xabre cards as well.
Quickly removed, but still.
@ least a corporate gamer dude issued an apology and WHY he thought they were ghey.
Still, the same people Abit are now partnering up with.
Makes me uneasy....

jees if your going to hold one of the best mobo and vid card manufacturers over a barrel becasue of the see through drivers your better at holding a grudge than me, and i was going to mention the Xabre drivers and Im pretty sure that there was an apologyfrom asus
I also have a hard time picturing a bunch of guys sitting round a boardroom table deciding that see through drivers is a good thing to be rdoing
nobody boycotted asus cos the sent out Hardcore porn with their vid card drivers did they ??

perhaps there is just one little freak in the driver division having a laugh.

RB

I will defend asus as much as you will sh*t on them this wont get us anywhere
i will conceed that there last bunch of motherboards have been more about the money making than the Quality but you just gotta look at their vid cards,

and before you start whinging about the price maybe you should look at the NZ distribution Model
Asus dont price things on a difference between products in NZ dollars its all done on the green back sure their cards cost more in the states but not that much more ($20 USD) its only in NZ that that translates to a huge difference.

Nah he has an XP1800+ in it.... unless that mobo has a new bios ver, I'll see if it is his one.

Yeah that's probably his one....... what a heap, a piece for a piece I'd say

TecCenter (http://world.altavista.com/sites/dede/pos/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=de_en&url=http://www.teccentral.de/reviews/vga/asus/v8420_deluxe/)
HardOCP (http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MzMx)

Seems to be getting on ok in reviews & the price is the same as the Gainward 128mb 4200 ATM.

Most clocking at 310/640

its prolly a bit late- but i would just like to say i could get my 1.0a celeron coppermine to 1.5ghz on air with my asus tusl2-c...that celeron was legendary- then the core got crushed
so i dont really know what whatshisnames talking about with crap oc's.....

B.O.T

that card looks like a very sweet deal, but the triplex is cheaper, and has that supposed heat decreasing silver pcb stuff...

Elle T
12-08-2002, 08:03 PM
yes i agree but the Triplex is a 64mb card where as this is a 128mb.

The glasses still crack me up. They're suck cheap crap.

I wear prescription glasses every day - so I know what GOOD frames should feel like ( you forget they're there after a couple of seconds ), and those ASUS glasses just don't - do - that.

Lol, they actually have a triangle ( with straight edges ) for a nose-hole. Hehe - it wouldn't be nearly so bad if those things were wearable....

They're a cool gadget though - shame they work the way they do ( only with CRT's, and only at res' you can use at 120Hz or more - which is normally just 640x480, if that, for most people ) :(.

hmmm..... anyone had a Abit Video Card ??

p01s0n_p1e
12-08-2002, 09:57 PM
HOHO!
how wrong you are!!!
the triplex 4200 DOES come in the 128 meg flavour, and wieghs in at around $450

Elle T
12-08-2002, 10:02 PM
but the 128mb version comes with 4ns ram not 3.3 like the 64mb.

Antallica
12-08-2002, 10:03 PM
so... 128mb ram spec is always slower than 64mb spec anyways.

Yeah, I was talkin about todays stuff really (although I'm probably wrong anyways)........ do you mean when 64mb becomes phased out and 128mb the new standard is when I will *see*?
