I've done two,

you simply connect the L1 bridges with a pencil or conductive ink.

search on google and you will get heaps of photos on how to do it. It's the same on tbird athlon's too.

BTW, here is a debateable topic, when unlocking my duron. I tested the bridges with my continuitiy tester on my multimeter, and I found that when the bridges are connected, they are all interconnected. so why not pour conductive paint over all bridges and job's done instead of doing bridge by bridge.

I can think of one reason: each bridge has it's purpose, and might not be used to connect to others, but has anyone connected all the bridges toghter?

:)

That results in the bridges shorting out. This happened with my first attempt at unlocking an XP. I did a very hurried job and I think the Conductive Ink wasn't completely dry and it then spread out with the heat when I powered up my PC.
What actually happened was the comp would boot and the CPU would be running @ say 1214MHz and then i'd reboot and the CPU would be running @ 994MHz - basically all these dodgy speeds. If I changed the multiplier in BIOS it resulted in the machine not POSTing. This was cured when I unlocked the CPU properly. ie: took my time. It's been unlocked for 4 months now without missing a beat. ;)

I know this was an XP and you did Durons but it's the same principle............

so is just a odinary pencil good enough? like the darkest one i got? or solder? or not lol... how much is conductive ink? is it a special type?

K,
yeah, cause I tried to hurry, and the end kept on joing two of them at the time etc, got on my nerves.

So I covered the 4 bridges with tape and left one uncovered, did that one, left it to dry for 15 minutes, and moved onto the next one. that way I did a proper job and now I'm running unlocked.

Remember, take your time when doing it, and try it with a normal pencil first to see if it works with that. Didn't for me, but does for some.

solder = NO

pencil = YES, but might not work, if it doesn't work,

get a conductive ink pen for 20$.

ok sweet il try the pencil first

...damn these forums need a spell check... :p :D

my board dun like pencil :( I pulled the cpu from a working system and stuck it in and it would't post @ not default multi, it that the case just grab some selotape and some small copper wires and lay em down on top of the bridges and tape em down

yeah thats a good idea.. il do that!
muahahaha but you can break anything by making the multipler to high ay? it will just lock up? or can it cause damage? does the fsb cause damage when put to high?,... the fsb makes our whole comp faster ay?

The pencil is definitely quicker, but may have to be re-applied later on. I used a conductive pen and my chip has been happily unlocked for 4 months now. ;)

No, you won't 'break' anything, unless you set the CPU voltage high and have inadequate cooling.

it will just lock up?

Possibly, or it won't POST at all.

or can it cause damage?

Refer to my answer to your first question. ;)

does the fsb cause damage when put to high?

Possibly. It could cause damage to your PCI, IDE or AGP devices. Try to keep your PCI bus under 40MHz to avoid damaging any IDE or PCI devices, however be aware that some devices cannot even handle 40MHz. ie: IBM GXP HDD's and SoundBlaster Live Digital sound cards. AGP vid cards don't usually have a problem with high FSB's, in my experience anyway.......

the fsb makes our whole comp faster ay?

Basically, yes. :D

condictive ink nail the resale price of a cpu tho

IMHO an unlocked CPU would be worth more than a locked one............ Well if an OC'er bought the chip anyway, if you were concerned about the warranty on the other hand, then no....

Also, conductive ink is a piece of p*ss to get off - when I messed up my first attempt at unlocking I removed the ink with some meths.

I tried to get the ink of mine using iso, an it wouldn't come off...different inks i guess, where's yours from ? mines from dick and I wouldn't recomend it, its very glugy and the pen nib fudged out before the pen was 1/2 empty

Mine is the Dickless Smith one aswell, CurcuitWorks I think, and the pen nib on mine is screwed too.

However, I was unlocking an XP - so the surface texture would have been different to yours, so maybe the ceramic Durrie doesn't clean up as well as the XP?

I've used solvent N in the past to get the stuff off. Just rub with a cotten wool bud for a minute, and it all comes off.

yup, i had to the same, but if you don't do it fast enough, you can't get it off, eg, it dries up, and I used a needle to apply it to the bridges.

hehe i stuffd up on ly first attemt too i used a pencil tho lol, so i just whipped out my rubber and started again and now i did it and i put a piece of selotape over it so the led wont move or whateva ( not selotape coz it goes all sticky and crusty but these sticky lables

so you got your CPU unlocked now?
if so, how far did you manage to OC?

question.

if you screw it up in the process is the warrenty void so you wont b able to get a refund/new cpu ?

or will they not notice it and... yeh ?

normally the warranty sticker will be over the bridges so in removing it you do void your warranty.

If you do it with pencil you can rub it off and give a fake grin, however if you do it with conductive pen... ta ta warranty

Grrr!!
21-07-2002, 08:01 AM
Just keep the Warranty sticker, whatever you do. (You can always paste it back ;) ).

you can't paste the sticker back,

but one of my durons didn't have a sticker, it oced badly,

the other one did, but oced good.

Grrr!!

Why can't you just paste the sticker back?

Is that circuitworks stuff u got N supposed to be brown

I just got some and the **** that comes out is brown, also it says tap on hard surface to loosen the shakey thing. But mine duznt seem to have a shakey thing.

Anyways im gonna go unlock me xp in a sec

u cant paste it back on becuse its stuck down so damn hard when you peel it off you fray the edges like u know and cant flatten it out again. and if the cpu doesnt work il just say i took it off because i heard that the heat from the cpu will melt the sticky stuff on the sticker and screw up the cpu.. il say i read that in some mag and yeah. i still have the sticker tho. i havnt ocd my cpu yet because i dont have my motherboard yet, im still waiting on it D;

They are well designed stickers. They don't peel off in one piece, they break up into little sticky pieces, so there's no sticking 'em back on.

yep, I found it hard to scrape off,
but the CPU's which don't OC good, generally don't have a sticker.

yeah my duron morgan had a bloody sticker like that - took me half an hour to scrap it off bit by bit - but unlocking was a piece of cake: with an HB pencil 1st attempt (took about 2-3mins). (removing sticker was hard / unlocking was easy)

my athlonXP had a sticker that came off in one easy go - took about 2 seconds to remove, but the effort to connect up the bridges took like 4hrs! (removing sticker was easy / unlocking was hard)

I also bought my conductive pen from DSE - 1st one didnt even work (nib was screwed) so i took it back and got another one and agin it had a screwed nib! they are sh*t, ended up just removing the nip and "painting" it on.
