Mmm, termites like wood...........
I'll take one made of Northland Kauri please, with a gloss finish and gold edging. :p
I don't think OSH would approve. Fire risk and all that.

Certainly looks good. Some has some 1337 carpentry skills. I personally wouldn't want one, but it would be nice to see it with all the components installed.
I've heard how using wood is really bad, cause it doesn't shield your computer from interference, and secondly, doesn't act as grounding to discharge your case from electrostatics,
so, I would stick with good old metal, :)
Grrr!!

And I wouldn't like to lug around a wooden case!

If you wanted a wood case badly enough, and you spent some time planning and designing it properly, you could incorporate appropriate grounding and shielding, but they do look cool, I personally like the look of varnished wood, mmm wood....
<chuckle> would explain then why there are no wooden laptop mods eh? :D
Yeah, wood's allright though I'd simply stick to veneer over the steel case. Kauri or rimu, some gold trim, some french windows, brass switches... or maybe not!

Another thing is that wooden cases would insulate the heat quite highly. Which isn't particularly good.

and why is this? I would kinda expect that alu does ground to seeming cars made out of aluminium, use the chassis as the grounding :)

it will... as long as it's not anodised (or oxidised... or painted... or coated too for that matter).

Dont use anything aluminium as an earth. Sure it conducts but not well and that is the point I was making.
You dont use the aluminium in an aluminium case for the earth do you?? So you wouldn't use the wood in this case for the earth you'd use the steel frame now wouldn't you?
Grrr!!

This thing HAS a steel frame

Its funny how the point the person before you doesnt get understood until someone reiterates it afterwards with a simpler terminology.
Grrr!! - I believe that is entirely what Oberon said, sir.

ehh...aluminium conducts electricity better than steel, so i have no idea what you are talking about. The only problem about earthing through aluminium that i know of is the terminals. Because aluminium oxidises, a layer of oxidisation provents you passing current through it without scratching it, which is easily down with a star washer.
