We've got a review on four GF4 Ti-4200 here(Chaintech, Gainward, Leadtek, PixelView):

Comments, flames?? :D

I'll take a read in a minute.

Nice quick small article.

I would like to have seen how the Leadtek 128MB compares to the others, but that is all I'll currently ***** about.

Finally :)
Pity about the lack of other 64mb cards to compare,
but either way great shootout.

Prolink = PixelView

You've linked Prolink's site up the top, but it's a PixelView card. Might wanna clear that up for people that are lazy and don't click links ( or might not, just an idea ).

Page 2

I also tested overclocking on three other samples and the overclocking range is around 300~310Core and 600~630Memory.

No it's not - cos on page 3 they're all in the 500's...

Addition?

Bang for buck graph? These are all the same card ( nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 ), and lets face it - EVERY benchmark is the same across the board for practicle purposes ( could YOU notice? ).

So maybe another graph of maybe 3DMark's/$ ?? Just to give an idea - cos that would probably show even more why you choose the Leadtek 64MB card as your reccomendation. Obviously you've already weighed that up in your head - but a visual for those that don't know about the relative prices might be good.

( and perhaps a $/MHz OC if you've got nothing better to do? :D )

Otherwise, I'd have to say that's your best yet... :)

Hmm .. but which prices would he go by KJ..?

Retailers..? Which one(s)? No one retailer would generally sell all of the brands.. nearly impossible to get a consistant price. Leadtek price can differ by $50 from retailer to retailer.

Cheapest on pricespy.co.nz... well that changes weekly..

A wholesaler with a one off special who sells a bunch of cards to a couple of retailers can skew the whole graph easy.

I came across this amazing thing the other day. It goes by the accronym RRP......

Ragnor

RRP is often way off the "street price"..

What's the point of a $RRP/Performance analysis when it's probably not even going to be that relevant to the consumer reading the review at the end of the day.

Cos it will be.

The main value being a visual guide of how in just about anything ATM, 64MB cards offer FAR more bang for your buck.
( see above post )

Even rrp in Rupees subject to availability through Pakistan would do that, man.... :p :D

hehe... surely no one needs any fancy pooh-har RRP too tell the 64mb version is better value..

That Anandtech review of the 9700 has me thinking though..

And for those of you that are wondering whether a 128MB card will be necessary, Doom3 will use at least 80MB of textures.

Ooh..!

BTW KJ, even that won't work. Melco has a higher RRP for the exact same Leadtek boards as Dove ;).

Manufacturer's generally provide RRP ;) ;)

Screw the middlemen :D

Damn. I wish we could screw the middlemen. However for the average consumer that is not a possibility.

Nice review! But why include 64MB version when other card is 128MB version?

And for 80MB texture thingy isn't what AGP Texture is for? Using main mem when gfx's mem is not enuf.

Hans

@ the time of testing, Leadtek only released 64MB version.

Nah AGP texture is shoving most of the textures onto the video card memory first. Having larger memory on your card may not seem to benefit now, because look at the games we have now. or at least that is what I think.

What games do you see using large texture sizes such as 2048 X 2048. Not a lot, if you do those benchmarks, which include Serious Sam 2 and Jedi Knight II you will see performances in the 128 range, and that is only just the beginning. Games will start to use larger textures to create better effects and realism towards gaming.

Isn't using main mem when gfx mem runs out called, AGP Aperrture size innit?
Check www.rojakpot.com and have a look in the bios guide ;)

Triplex Ti-4200 64MB is now in the round up.

How's the image quality on the Triplex? Better then the leadtek?

Hans

same as Leadtek at 1280*1024*32*75Hz. There might be some difference if u go higher.

Is there a chance of getting some numbers (benchmark ones) for the ASUS 8420 128Mb Deluxe... My understanding is that the 128Mb version has 3.3ns ram onboard (OOOOH!)...

Also 128Mb cards do currently benefit in games like
"Jedi Knight 2" so some benchmarks from this game would be appreciated

Hans

Not sure if we can get in the Asus card.

We have two more video card reviews, Leadtek GF4 Ti-4600 and Triplex GF4 Ti-4400 that are based on this benchmark. Once we published those two, the bench suit/hardware/driver would be updated to reflect the current hardware.

I was over a mates the other day.. noticed how noisey his Leadtek Ti 4200 is...

I see you list both the Triplex and the Leadtek as noisey in your table.. which would you say is louder?

hmm with Triplex you advise changing the cooling anyway.. Not going water just yet, so what do you recommend as a replacement?

Hans
22-08-2002, 10:13 PM
The Triplex and Leadtek are on par on the noise level.

I would recommend a home made HSF for that GF4, unless u have a Leadtek one, the bigger the better.

Noisey????

Dud fans? Mine is quiet as, and I mean AFTER I switch off my 3 case ones ;)

TripleX made a bit of a stir when they arrived here in NZ...and looks like they deserved it.

Nice review of it :) However, my Leadtek is kickass...315/640...nothing else has come near it!

Hans what ever happend to the Leadtek 4200 128mb review that was said to be added?

Hans

Don't think we will be doing a review on that now. However, we will consider the newly released GF4 Ti4200 8X.

Shame they were not my two cards, Mine did 315/640 fine, Prob will go higher, but i havnt really pushed it much - Got bored playing with it that night me thinks!
