Thats right... we can't let all Control_Phreaks hard work go to waste so i have been devising a plan b, just for a moment like this.

This LAN 'WILL' still be going ahead this Saturday 20th July at 2pm and i have 6 people confirmed for the LAN before I posted this, so i expect to a least double that number.

The location of the LAN is at:

Hi-Tech Computers
127 Symonds St (the same bulding where Gamezone used to be)
Newton
Auckland
Free Parking at the rear of the building
PH: 303 3666 (if you need directions)

or check out directions online here (http://www.wises.co.nz/street_search.asp?d=0&street=&suburb=&town=&street_id=18726&e_start=2667750&n_start=6481250&zoom=4&coords=?101,355)

Hi Tech have just reopened in this new building and have brought 30 brand new machines, all AMD 1800XPs, 256MB RAM, 19" Flat Screen monitors. These are there if you need to use them, otherwise you can bring your own PC in if you want.

There will be a charge to use this venue, which is $10 Flat rate entry fee. For this you will be able to connect your pc or if you need to, use their PCs.

If you are keen, please post or PM me to confirm a seat :D

Cool it's in town....... I'll be around there...... I probably turn up in the arvo and play for a couple of hours on their Rigs coz I can't be arsed bringing mine in....... plus if I get fragged to hell I can blame their set up, mouse etc etc

So save me a seat ;)

Great, I'm keen, I need something to relax me, all this organization has got me stressed out :)

Can you clarify the pricing?

It would be $10 for the night for using one of their rigs? Or is that on top of the $2 /h

/Edit
Just noticed this is thread #1234 :D

Sweeeet, you would be a fool to miss out on this one.

We are going to have our own setup and working Americas Army Server.

Its going to be huge!

And Just confirmed Nick and Chris H will be coming.

And got a couple of possibly make its.
Drew and Alex from my work. PB and his mate will probably make it also.

How many is that.

3 definite and upto 4 possible others. From me.

the price is the same if you bring your own rig in or not.

$10 entry fee to the OCNZ AuckLAN1 for Sat 20 2pm to Sun 21 7am

I am taking my rig in and using their Monitor/KB/Mouse/Headphones so = $10

...just thinking that Hi Tech have a T1 High Speed internet connection, so in future we may be able to have inter-city OCNZ LAN challenges!! ... how sweeet would that be :D

Also Asan, there will be a spare network card there for you.

Control_Phreak
18-07-2002, 02:37 PM
In that case ill probably take my rig (XP1800 @ 2000+ and a gf3-ti200) and use their monitors etc :)

Skarji
18-07-2002, 02:43 PM
good idea..cause one thing we forgot to mention is that their rig has the chinese version of op system installed so everything is non english  ...hrmmm..maybe we can get it to go multilingual

Beware - you know not the giant you awaken...... BWAHAHAHAAA.....
:D

Good luck - this one sounds like a keeper. I know what it's like getting screwed over by venues. L3#3 was like that - with a half-good venue thrown together at the last moment. Luckily there's a large group of tolerant LANers down here :).

Hmmm - 30 people on a LAN vs. 30 people on another LAN.... oohhhh yeah.....
*drools*
:D

Also you guys may want to consider that if you're using their PC's, you'll be using their installed programs ( and their installed programs only? ). Not to mention the lack of leeching goodness you can't do on somebody else's hard drives. I'd be taking my own rig and mouse.....
;)

Well im not organising it but I'm sure SOF2 will be popular and sounds like we'll be playing some AA as well...
Probably all the other games like MOHAA, RTCW, WC3, maybe even some NWN

No, but we'll put a 'kick me' sign on your back IR :D

Control_Phreak
18-07-2002, 03:32 PM
well I'd rather play UT than Q3A so thats fine with me :)

Just as long as noone wants to play CS...

Goose
18-07-2002, 05:01 PM
as requested the spec of the machines are:

AMD Xp1800+
Gigabyte 7VRXP
256MB DDR
Gainward 64MB Geforce2 MX400
MAG 19" 996PF Flat screen

and T1 2Mb/S DSL internet Access

Hi-Tech sell computer software/hardware (good for impluse upgrades on the day) and are also an Internet/Gaming centre with 30 PCs

But who knows what the spec of the machines will be after a bunch of OCrs visit ;) :D :D

CmdrChris
18-07-2002, 05:07 PM
AA is the game I want to play!!
CS has been kicked out the door
like a pixelated dirty wh0re

it is so much the case I wrote a poem about it.

Goose
18-07-2002, 05:54 PM
Which games at the LAN you ask?

it all depends on what you want, but we need to have some planned in advance, so they will be:

- Americas Army
- Soldier Of Fortune 2
- Warcraft III
- MOHAA or RTCW (whichever is most popular)
- Jedi Knight 2
- Unreal Tournament

and of course ... anything that's new :D

disclaimer: I will not be held responsible in any way for the safety of anyone that attempts to play CS there.

Grrr!!
18-07-2002, 06:01 PM
Damn. I wish I was still living in Auckland.

Control_Phreak
18-07-2002, 06:02 PM
The specs on them arent bad at all, albeit the graphics cards. Certainly good value for the $10 and still playable for anyone not bringing their own rig...

Maybe they should have got 17" LCD's instead of the 19" ones and spent the extra $$$ on a decent vid card :D

/me brings along his baseball bat to 'give' to anyone who plays CS...

come on, you have to make it to the first one, coz one day you'll be telling ur kids all about it :D

Control_Phreak
18-07-2002, 08:42 PM
you guys got a dedicated server?

I got a p3 700 with win2k server that we had all setup with all the games loaded to be used as a dedicated server. I can bring it along with me if you want because I won't be taking it back to MIT till monday...

It's running DHCP as well so should make IP allocation easier...

CmdrChris
18-07-2002, 09:20 PM

I tried wh0ring this lan on DCNZ last night a few ppl were keen but no-one wanted to confirm, so we might see a few random ppl coming though.

Either way the more the better.

Goose
19-07-2002, 02:19 PM
Unfortunately there has been a change to the charge rates and the $2 per hour has had to be scraped

There is now going to be flat rate charge of $10 entry fee for Sat 2pm to Sun 7am. This is to keep the warez w[H]orez / l33cherz at bay and make it better for everyone.

**Good news is that there will be 2 dedicated gaming servers and a 3rd server if Control_Phreak brings his server** :D

iam bringing in a UT ctf server. The map rotation is based on proviing grounds ladder. More info on maps :

Is that 10 bucks for their rigs as well???

Ok, the numbers I have on my list so far are:

11 confirmed seats

9 possibles :)

The OCNZ AuckLAN1 has been posted on the JetStream Games website and broadcasted on DCNZ.

I am also still rounding people up, so make sure you confirm if you want a seat reserved tomorrow :)

...not bad for 2 days planning ;)

The priority of seats will be: (1 being highest)
1. Confirmed
2. Shown interest as possibles
3. show up on the day unexpected

There are 30 seats, so we have got a lot to go before filling them all up. If you are unsure about coming on the day, call 303 3666 to check if there are spare seats.

Control_Phreak

sounds good

dagrimreaper will probably be coming with me as well as another guy (Tide) and theres about 2-3 of other people from the dorms who might drop by some time...

I'll be bringing the server, may as well make use of it....

Hey, asanthadenz, you werent just at the manukau Warehouse were you? I followed this guy who looked awfully like your picture while going out to my car :D

daagrimreaper
19-07-2002, 05:47 PM
I was wondering..with all these games....will the different game servers be running all at once...? Or is there going to be a set rotation of the different games being played...coz there might be a risk of having a bunch of people playing one game..while another bunch play a different game...and this will take out the whole fun of having a massive LAN party... if we end up with only four to five people playing together out of the thirty....

Goose
19-07-2002, 06:07 PM
The rule we will try to abide by is that we will only have one game running at a time. Of course there will be people who will not be interested in some games and if a lot of people turn up we need to make sure we can provision for them as well.

Some games have a maximum number allowed at one time, so we dont wont the rest of the people to be sitting around twiddling their thumbs. So in that case we can quickly start up another game of choice :)

Another reason is redundancy, problems happen and we don't want to cancel the event half way through just because we haven't got a server ...that would be sad :(

daagrimreaper
19-07-2002, 06:10 PM
Yeah that is a good idea......it would have been good to have a polling system to see in what order the games shall progress..but i guess its too late to devise one now....lets hope everything turns out alright tomorrow....:)

Goose
19-07-2002, 06:25 PM
I was thinking of having a poll, but i've listed the games that we are going to be playing instead.

Also half the people coming are not members of OCNZ, so it wouldn't give us a good indication either, becuase we wouldn't have their votes.
