how many watts are the 12 v cabels?

Grrr!!

As far as I know you can draw the entire wattage of your PSU through one cable. This is not a wise thing though. Just spread your powered items around the molex's.

damn i thought i doubble checked that i put a a in it :(
oh ok cool i was just wondering so it just draws as much as it needs to? cos i was thinking of putting a fader switch on so i can control my fan speed.. or is that a bad idea cos it will control [B]ALL[/] the devices hookd up to that psu even i only change whats going through the molex.. or not? or will it suck more ampares when i try to fade it and still have the same amps going through the molex and just overload the psu?... do u get me? or do i need to explain clearer?

don't worry about anything, you can put loads onto the wire, they should handle about 300W. if the wires start getting warm and soft, then just disconnect, BTW, i have never in my years of working with computers came accross the wires not being able to handle the current.

lmao
You CANNOT draw all the wattage on just the 12v rails.
There are only a few PSUS that can do that, and one that comes to mind is an Antec one, i forget the model.
But on a run of the mill PSU, forget about it....
Check the Amp rating of the 12V line, then check your devices that u plan to run off it......
If you drew 300 watts off the 12v line in a 300 watt run of the mill PSU, it would either blow the fuse, or die.....

what I meant was, the wire can handle about 300W load, but you can't get that, so yeah, a fuse would blow before you screwed something up before.

Oh ok but i was wondering if i can put a dimmer onto it to controll the fan speeds. will that work? Or will it just suck more watts through the line and make no diference?

yes, you can put a variable resistor on there and it will work and others have done that,

people use something called a baybus, which all it is, is a variable resistor on one of those plastic cdrom bay covers.

so yes, it is safe

ok sweet, _N_ that exactly what im gunna do ;) i was just wondering if it works because you can get fan controllers that do that and i was just wondering if everyone is righ enough for one of them lol
