Hey, im having issues with win2k sp4, i get unstabvility and my system often hangs while booting or after prolonged uptime.
I dont get this problem with sp3. I thought it could be due to my overclock and the summer heat but it could have been sp4 i guess a bit more time will tell.
It usually doesnt lock up on cold boots but it does sometimes. Booting into safemode then restarting the computer seems to work, that drew me to the conclution that its sp4, its quite wierd.
Are any of you having this problem?
nope, my sp4 has been going fine,
maybe return your computer to stock speed and see if it still happens??

I haven't seen any problems like this in the win2k SP4 boxes I see. Maybe you need to do a clean install.

Yeah ive done many clean installs, the latest one was done yesterday. (the day i posted)
I havtn had any problems so far back on sp3. Could it change some core programs that will make windows less stable?

Ok just as everything seems stable my wierd software problems have apopeared again, this time round i did a minimal install, just drivers and apps i need like firewall antivirus ect.
And im still getting it. It was a totally fresh format too.
Is there such a thing as hardware conflicting with software or vice versa?
Il try posting a link.. but my copy and paste isnt working. I cant even ****en drag icons around on the desktop.
here is the link http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11287

Could be, i did make sure i patched my computer though.. Well with the patch ms relieced. Could it be a mutation or somthing?
Is scvhost.exe generating errors btw. Happens all the time and once it happens everything screws up. Il try the patch again.

Download this:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe
Once you un that it will gve you the download patch option, then VIOLA ;)
Same thing happened to me.
yea blaster cant restart 2ksp4 it just causes errors do above and yay ;)
the svchost dsnt crash because of infection .. it crashes due to the way the program that tries to infect your system is encoded to infect it .. it's not smart enough to know wat OS ur running so it guesses .. and wen it guesses wrong it causes svchost to crash .. patch ur system with the security patches from microsoft and disable the ports outlined on symantecs site .

I would check the PSU voltage rails and also check your ram with memtest86... dodgy PSU's and dodgy ram can cause all sorts of random problems.

If after tryin the blaster fix and checked the hardware like PSU/RAM try contacting MS tech support, I mean you paid for it you may as well use it.

And what would be the point in running a mac? So i have to buy a whole new computer and not be able to use all my windows based programs?
And my computer is fully patched up, i cant have blaster anymore. It seemed to freze when alcohol 120% was opening so i got riod of it, seems to be good now. Svhost hasnt crashed yet either *woot*:)
If the patches dont work i am sure if i did have it im sure my antivirus would have pickd it up. So im nearly 100% that it was a software conflicting with hardware maby, alcohol is running 3 virtual drives on my computer.
Ram was fine after 6 hours of memtest too.
Psu is fine as well, i used a multimeter.
