I'm looking at upgrading my PIII 450 mhz PC
I have been looking on Pricespy.co.nz
I have a $800 Budget.
Would this be a good fast system? - And what could I OC it to??
*AMD Athlon XP1800+ =$234.00
*Asustek A7N266-VM Motherboard Socket A nVidia nForceIGP =$211.00 (The intergrated Graphics are better than what I got now ) [ Ive got a 16mb nVidia TNT 90/100]
*512Mb PC2100 DDR SDRAM =$246.00
And I need to get a good PSU Prob 300 - 400 Watt, for when I get my new GF4 Ti4200.
Thanx, Just thought I'd come here after reading PCWorld Mag, I've been @ overclockersforum.com in the past but I have been confusing them with our NZ Dollars :)

A good fast system yes.
NOTE THAT THE $234 CPU DOES NOT INCLUDE A HSF FAN
You may have one, or will need to buy one!

argh ?!? no fan, how much would a fan set me back?
what CPU for cheap does include a fan??
And I herd about DDR Ram rising in price fast , so is it a good idea to by NOW or is it ok to wait a couple of weeks.

A good CPU cooler such as the Volcano 7+ is about $55. If I were buying RAM I would definitely buy now. It really sucks to wake up one morning and find out that RAM prices have doubled overnight. :(
With the Nforce MoBo get two 256 sticks as opposed to one 512 stick....... gives the onboard graphics adapter better performance :D well that's what I heard anyway ;)

I agree with the fact that you should buy 2x256 sticks for an nForce.
I also agree that you should buy a Volcano 7+ as a retail box Athlon will set you back almost as much!

RAM prices have leapt a little
Tastech has the standard 512 PC2100 DDR for $300 incl. As opposed to the $250 that was last week :(
