Hi guys,
I could do with advice from the gurus.
I'm putting together a system based on an AMD XP1800+ and am confused about which mb to buy. I'm putting in a couple of Maxtor ATA133 HDs so need ATA133. I'd prefer not to use onboard sound or gfx or n/w card.
What's a decent stable board that'll do the job.
:rolleyes:

What kind of budget do you have?
I would recommend the Epox 8K3A+ which is currently $308 at Starlyte.

I've been looking at the following:
* ABIT KR7A / KT266A chipset at around $310
* ABIT KX333 for $255
* ASUS A7V333 for $295
But I'm getting confused. I'm not into serious OC but after a couple of years with a dodgy (wash my mouth out with soap) Celeron, I'm really hanging out for something fast and stable.
Any other thoughts appreciated.
:rolleyes:
I would go for the ASUS board cause it has really good features, and it's stable, others will tell you to go Abit, but that's their personal biased opion, :D

If you look closely, most Epox mobos are out of stock. ;)
There are importer issues apparently.
Digidog: I personally would recommend the Epox 8K3A+ aswell, but they are nearly impossible to find in NZ now. So the next best bet would be the Asus A7V333 or the Abit KX333, both would do the job quite nicely. :D
DigiDog can you tell me where you saw the ABIT KX333 for $255??? The cheapest I've seen it for is $264 from Starlyte Computers...... hey 9 bucks is 9 bucks :p

DigiDog - go for the Abit - the ASUS has all the onboard stuff you said you'd prefer not to use, and also the Abit is a very stable board, its cheaper, and if you DO want to get into 'ardcore overclocking, its sex on pins.
The KR7A is more expensive than the KX333? Unless thats because one is RAID and the other isnt...still, get the 333 board!
[edit] Dove still have the Epox - but for $249 + GST, so if you have an account, or a way to get stuff off them...
