View Full Version : Anyone on TC Cable?

Just curious if anyone was on TelstraClear with Internet Cable(tm) 128, and if so, do you play games online, on US servers, what are your pings like?

I am considering changing from Telecom/Paradise ADSL to TelstraClear/Paradise Cable and although its a couple of dollars less a month, I want to know if its lower pings ahoy! I know Cable is more efficient, less lost packets, error correction etc, therefore it SHOULD be faster for downloads and shizzle, due to not having to redownload half the damn file...BUT I just wanted to know from others experience.

Also, I am assuming it is an internal PCI cable modem they supply with they package?

Cheers.

I am on T/C 128k its great... But more reliable than ADSl ever was, even with a good isp like net4u.co.nz.

The prices below include the modem rental and are from t/c webiste...

$67 for 128k - with 10 gig int limit.

$76.95 for 256k - with 5 gig int limit.

Does have $100 install cost tho.. and around 1 week wait.

You can host servers on cable unlike adsl and so far has had 100% uptime in the last 7months.

The real cost saving come if you also get a phone line or cable tv etc..

Pings the gamer servers nz are around 10-40 and and in around 80-150 range depending on the site/country. Eg on america's army i get ping of 120 or so.

They supply 2 types of modem, Sb3100 only has ethernet and Sb4100 has ethernet and usb connector. It appears to be completely random what they give you. Oh they also supply you with Dink 10mb nic as well..

thabass - you're a legend :)

A ping of 120 on AA servers...shizer, I am getting around 200-300 :) TELECOM ARE ARSE.

Well, according to TC themselves, if I get phone and cable net, the modem costs are free...it will cost me $92 or so a month for phone, answerphone services, and paradise broadband 128. At the moment, I am paying just over $100 for internet and phone...so its all good.

Those pings are making me erect...thank you.

I've had very very few issues with TC Cable and I've had it since a few weeks after they announced the service (consequently I have a much older COM21 Modem)

im thinking of going to TC cable, either 128, or 256k. Do u know what sorts of ping i should expect. I could afford the 2mbps but i dont think i could stay under tha 1 gig cap with those types of speeds....and TC charge another $50 for another 2gigs...

The 128 is around $70, with 10 gigs, and the 256k is around $80 with 5gigs...will there really be any difference between the 2? What do u think i should get?

It depends, I'd get 128k, I have that with ADSL at the moment, and its fast enough (except the pings are shizer) and the 10gb cap means I can download an assload...

256k would be 28kbits up and down? I presume. VERY nice. But 5gb cap might mean disaster for me, although lately, I have been closer to that than 10...

Pings will be around 20-40 national as far as I know...80 to aussie? 120 states?

BASTARDS! But anyway, TC STILL havent gotten back to me, so I am still on adsl :/

soon, soon...

yea...well i already have the cable to my house, so i dont think it will take long to get me connected.
the only crap thing about TC cable is that its only 128k upstream(even on the 2mbps connection)...even tho u have no cap on upstream...FTP server n e one?
The thing is im not really sure if i would d/l much more than 5 gig a month, however i say that now, but it will prob change when i get off this **** 56k connection...and besides, if i do, i'll try and d/l from nz - its only 2c per meg.

Im on T/C 128k and it r0x0rs :D Get the most l33t pings in CS, RA3 etc. Getting around 10-20pings on Para servers for CS and 3-12 pings on RA3 servers - very l33t :D

dl speeds are pretty good too, dling from para at 15-16kbs. Though thats getting a bit slow for me (with the knowledge of Dc++ :P) and thinking of upgrading 512k or 256k

get the 2mbps if yer going for the 512k. its only $20 more a month, and you get the same cap.

is you can wait and handle Telstra go for Tempest,

256k, no cap within reason and no P2P, and it has to be for a company. Other than that it's great.

My mate has it for our company and it's soo fast, 10-20 pings on NZ servers and -150 for over seas (depends on tiem and etc)

Only $99 a month and my mate has gotten 42gb downloaded last month from ftp's and DC (only P2P they seem to allow) and not gotten any phone calls or anything,

Can take some time to get installed tho

just a hint, if u see conectecs vans digging up your street or sling cables every where ring up TC and ask to be a beta tester we did this and they gave us free fone net and tv for 2 months whyle they sorted out the problems in our area needless to say there were none (they had no data cap on the net but as they weren't charging us for anything this also gave us free instalation )

:]

but after being on ihug ultra all u can eat plan in the good old days of 6 Mb no data cap 10 gig just aint god enough so im prolly switching to walkerwireless at 129 for 256 k up/down and no data cap

but no complates about Tc cable sept 10 gig cap :\

Gremlin

128k upstream(even on the 2mbps connection)...
Not so, you get 256k on the 2Mb Plan. If you've upgraded to that plan and don't have 256k then ask them to fix it :) - worked for me.
