DR Lan #13 - fundraiser

Date: midday friday the 12th of December till Saturday the 13th in the evening.
Venue: St Martins Presbytarian Church, 43 St martins road
Cost: $10 for the whole time, $5 for half of it
Pep expected: 30
Network Equiptment: 2 16 port switches and a few 8 ports (posiblly a 32 port from KJ)
Tournaments: 3v3 Wolf ET ladder, DR vs Mix in wolf ET, Aoe2 Over all champ and .meep vs DR game, also a starcraft Over all champ also more to be planned as suggested and approved.
Services: The usual faciliaties (toilet etc), A food run. DC++ server, Coke suppy, All kinds of computer gear on cheap, Oven and stove, Coffee/tea and a cooked breakfast (baked beans and egg). :P

its good to get highest light weapons after thyve all been going on about panzer whores and their lack of "skillz"..lol..made highest light twice...

messing with a lvl 4 "ho" is no fun ..:)

so lets do a six..ill be our resideent "panzer whore"..and switch to medic soon as i make lvl 4 ho

just a few days 2 go...... everything seems sorted:o :p

well that went off okay...artifice turned up with his server..so we ran a dc hub on that ..props to him..he discovered nfs underground..and that was the last we saw of him for the remainder of the time he was at the Lan..

...happens to us all..nfs underground has an almost hypnotic effect on lanners..

lotta wolfing got done..dr vs ocnz was them against us..on oasis kj was the med from hell doom was the eng..and i just front Lined panzer whored dr as they attempted to storm the guns..dr were unsuccessfull..due for the most part to kj's skillfull medic ops round the guns..and dooms timely defuses..

next round on oasis we were allied and kj jumped the wall and blew the guns before i could even finish planting at the wall with an inscensed doom tking me screaming "nein Nein "..with i think translates to "it doesnt matter weve won"..

must say to ..going panzer whore aginst seasoned players in smaller teams ..makes for interesting situations..there were some miracoulous "escapes" where i shoulda killed two at least,,but they survived..


still...that was okay..but the most fun games is just max numbers on teams and go hard..as most avg players like myself think..ohh im not good ebough to player a serious campaign..so just dr versus ocnz with evryone in for fun is better as then the server is full and things start cranking up..this also attracts other players to wolf..some hardened bfers like myself..

next Lan it should be loose..ocnz verses..whoever wants to take part..

playing temple 3 on low grav and sped up tank was insane..why didnt anyone take screens..

also the naf practice map..on low grav was a hoot for a couple of hours on sunday..

i think kj and snako definitelty enjoyed the opourtunity to attend a lan where they didnt have to set up and clean up..their switch was handy as well..[ my 20 metre had to go about two to reach the switch :D ..]..


so i thought it went pretty well props top you hads do it again its definitely a handy venue ..also the ncgn venue in kaipoi is kinda cool too..we should all be in behind these lans so theres a carnage of lanning happening all, the time..dOg out..

ps: if al the Lans could have a team of volenteers to help set up and tidy up then that would make the job soooo much easier..

and the breakfast idea is pretty good too

You better believe it, going to a lan where I do not have to play with servers, making sure everyone's network connection is going ... oh the joy!

Was a LOT of ET played, which was great fun! Also a bit of Quake3 on the Sunday with Doom ( which I lost, but still found really fun - he picked a rail man though :p ), I'll have to do some praccy and own him next time ;). And where would a LAN be without the obligatory Worms World Party carnage? :D

In the ET tourney 3 of us [OCNZ] guys played the 'second ' DR team ( 2 DR guys + a ring-in ):

...and won :D. Starting up on D ( oasis ), Dog whored the panzer ( which nobody seemed to strongly want off despite it being 3v3 O_o ), Doom was Eng and I was Medic. I killed em and handed Doom health, and Doom defused ( a lot - must have been over a dozen defuses ). We held both guns for about 25min's - but they got the North, and so we held them the full 30min's on South.

...then on offense I jumped the wall first spawn, planted North and South and won sub-2min. :p

The MI/DR game was a draw, and neither team were particularily keen on playing us in a final. And fair enough - I can understand they wouldn't have enjoyed the pummeling we'd hand out anyways :p ;)


Things got slow near the end, so I dropped in a few wacky settings:

...and we played lots of desert temple3 ( big enough to soak up the spam ), and narfpractice. Was farking funny and really very fun in the end - especially on narfpractice, cos it's not all panzer and field-op whoring like you'd think ( with low grav, everyone's a REAL easy sniper target ;) ).

Shame I didn't think to hit my screenshot button more often. There were some absolutely CLASSIC moments on temple3 - I'd run around a corner and see a base up ahead ( and tank that I'd be trying to repair ), and all these guys flying around above it in the low grav, firing flamers and panzers and all sorts of insane amounts of spam at each other, trying to catch each other as they got near the ground :D. Was really fun!

Thanks for that Grim and DR - tis a nice wee hall you've got there, and well done with the breakfast Dave. Now NEXT TIME COOK ME SOME EGGS! :D

Just some concerns....

You guys didnt beat DR, the team u vsd only had one DR wolf ET player, Anglo hasnt played online more than a few times and Hadley doesnt at all. we missed a chance to vs OCNZ in a final

The plan was to have the 3v3 comp first then have the big free for all games, but thanks to the complaing and people wanting to do there own thing it was delayed and wasnt completed as with the other tournaments. If theres something you disagree to post it on the forums first instead of stuffing things around...im not sure weither or not if im going to organise tournaments or even the fact of another LAN with all the hasstles ive founds to be involved.:(

With that aside it was good to see alot of the Wolf ET community along with KJ, SS, Doom and the other OCNZ crew, Made some intense gaming. :D

Me and many of my fellow gamers agree that LANs are often ruined by over usage of the DC hubs as they take considerable amount of players from the games as they just sit back leeching, weve never come across this before at our more private LANs and I cant really be bothered telling everyone wat time a games on and geting them off the Hub. If leechings that important get a wireless connection or something......im not talking about leeching in general just over usage. as with watching movies. Games are the most social part of a LAN and its wat makes it so memorable.

If i do decide to organise another LAN, i know ive learnt alot so hopefully it will be a bit more polished. Thx for all those that came along i throughly enjoyed myself apart from a few things. Ill do a proper rite up soon with pics. :o

it was a good lan, and i did shut down the dc hub to encourage gameplay there for a while. certainly shutting it down during the compo's is a good idea. oh yeah and the team i was playing in got really hammered. but fun none the less.

i think you should "tell" everyone what time a game is on..because we will watch a movie in down time and it is easy to get "zoned" ..i always thought the whiteboard idea at the first L3's was cool...coupled with a stentorian..game starting now command can be effective..

well well have to have the ocnz...vs dr match again then..but i reckon ..should be all that you can get on the server..cause if players are rusty they'll feel intindated by the impending feeling of ownerage coming upon them and beg out..hey if they dont have skillz then theyll get better and enjoy competeing loosely in a rematch..

i never play the 3vs3 thing cause i dont compete in wolf..i was a bf modder heavily..

just bring all your affilitaes and have awolf brawl..and see if the collective players can win out over the other team..we did that at kiapoi..with siti & co..wasnt a comp but we went hard and neeeded to win,.[ cause we were getting owned a bit ]..we did win well on goldrush.

thought occurs to me tho..might need to set your "more official" type comp teams before the Lan..so the only way you can enter the comp is if a team member is absent..on the night

It was an awsome lan! Man the Wolf Match was great :)
One of the coolest things that happened in the match (and most "frightning") was having to run between gun towers one after another defusing and having Dog and everyone else go, ohhh no youve lost it! But we didnt!

Thanks to KJ's excellent Medic Skills and L3 dOgs whoring cough rather panzer skills we had an awsome match!

Playing Q3A with KJ was a relief, (even if i was using his version + config ;)) I had a lot of Q3A tension built up and noone else wanted to play :D

Worms World Party was pretty fun, KJ, SS and I played some "custom" maps aka kill everyone in one round maps :D Great fun.

Every lan needs the DC++ hub. It wasnt even used that much, i only leeched a gig of stuff at the most, while at the last lan (DGE) i got 30 gigs worth.. (of Linix isos ;))

All in all it was a good lan, thanks Grim, Kj, SS and L3 dOg :)

Specs at this stage are max of 40 peeps (don't need to be a student), 10 till 10, $10, gigabit backbone (one of the techs mentioned a three layer switch if need be, whatever that is...), and power not a problem :cool: To be held once a month... anybody be keen for that? Parking is no problem, and BK, MCDs and Bigfresh are all a 2 minute walk.

S255/256. Obviously they could support far greater than 40 peeps in other locations, but after seeing the job that KJ and friends have at L3 I think 40 will be heaps ;) Rather than hijack this thread, if anyone wants to know anything more PM me :)
