It doesnt quite weigh that much, quite heavy tho.
It will run fine with that powersupply. I run one on a 320w cheap crappy Icute one and its sweet.
Keeps my p4 nice and cool :P

It's heavy, bout 4-500 grams i would guess.
Check this (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm) page out for more specs.....
It will run just fine on your PSU :)

Nah - about 600g with the fan.
Its not light, and NEVER transport the case with the fan attached. Its only hooked onto one lug, and its dieing to snap off.
You'll be fine running it on 400W. I had it powered on a 230W psu up untill a week or two ago - mind you it was with dickall else attached, but the point stands - 400W = Ample.
cheers for the help :)
should have enough power there to o/c an xp1800 aswell?

Depends.
What is the brand of the PSU and what are your 3.3, 5 and 12v rails?
They should be close to the rated number, preferably a little bit over it, for the 5 and 3.3v rails @ least.
download motherboard monitor from http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
That will supply you with all the relevant info if you dont already have it :)
dont actually have any of it yet... im upgrading...
crodegen 400w psu, not wure on what the rails r..
cheers for the link, ive been meaning to get that program, just didnt know where it was :)

ive got a 7+ cooling my 1800 and its good as gold. Even on the low setting my CPU idles at around 30, bare in mind my room is damn cold during winter tho.
One word of caution, the connections to the actual switch are a bit dodgy, was playing around with mounting my switch the other night, when luckily I noticed the red wire to the switch had come off, and hence no power to the fan. As you can barely hear the fan on low im lucky im noticed it, otherwise it could have been a good test to see if it shutdown at 60...
Nothing a bit of solder couldnt fix tho..
Oh yeah mines running off a 350W enermax with a heap of crap hooked up and its no worries.
sweet as, ill stick to the v7+ for my upgrade then
cheers for the info :)

Mmm? I've transported my case with a V7+ in it in a bus for 4 hours over bumpy terrain and had no trouble.
What version DID you get? Mine has six lugs attachments, three on each side.

Ahh that fan 'aint goin nowhere, I just been at my cousins place and took my rig with me. It was jumpin around in the car the way there and back, I kinda dropped it too. Besides I've had a tug at my V7+ anyways and it's solid as, it's not going anywhere unless there's a bit of force involved.

I got mine about one and half months ago - the AMD clip uses only the middle lug. When did you get yours?
One major question I have - my durrie isn't lapped, and when I pulled the sink off for the first time the priniting on the core had etched their way into the copper base. Now that I've taken it off about 5-8 times (as you do;)) there really seems to be some pitting.
Is this normal? Using AS3. It should corrode it underheat or somethingshould it? This doesn't sound normal now, does it.
Its going to be a pain in the ass to lap the mutha smooth as on the centre part of the cooler face is pitted - the rest is perfect. I'm going to have to lap the whole base down about 1mm or so.

Hmm sounds like you got a bad base. Mines only oxidising on the top of the fins (Sydog tells me this is normal for copper) other than that mines sweet as with AS3.

any large heatsink such as the V7+ will increase the chances of crushing the core of an AMD processor during transit. it's not that risky, but it's still a risk... hell i've heard of people crushing their cores with big HSF units just by knocking their case with their foot...

well, p01s0n p1e crushed the core of his 1ghz celeron but trying to take his Volcano 6cu+ off, so its amazingly easy to do. I imagine it would be easier on a Tbred as the core is smaller.

damn, poor bugger :( oh well a fitting end for a celey :D

lol - yea..but i dont think he is complaining...his dad bought him a 1.3ghz celeron straight after, and this time it has a heat spreader so he wont be able to crush it :)

well that's good..... a celeron you say... ;) yeah I'll be upgrading my mates C3 500Mhz with a celeron 700, you should see the benches on his rig with that C3... a PII 400Mhz rips it up when the C3 oc'ed to 700Mhz..... BBWWAAAHAHAHA!!!!!!

shhhh man
i thought i told you not to mention that..
shhhh
it wasnt my 6cu+
what happened was the intel hsf used a plastic retaining clip (they bought out a metal version shortly after i bought mine) and i was fiddling around in my case, and one of the little hole's which clips over the lugs snapped, and all the force shifted onto the edge of the core and shaved a good mm off its edge.
damn that annoyed me, had to buy a new hsf- though the celeron was free to replace :D
heres a quick ms paint force rendered sketch entergrating the new "add force wizard"

*yawn*
yeah, my freshly installed V7+ has 3 lugs on each side...

but if you have a copper shim you have even less chance of crushing your core ay?

hell yea. i've sent my volcano 7 on a plane several times. once the guy putting it into the trailer of the airport shuttle even tipped the box over onto its side! (big thud  )
i almost had kittens imagining a cpu, socket and hsf bouncing around the inside of my case!
all was ok though. carrying it around you should have no problems. :)
Grrr!!
15-07-2002, 06:37 AM
Hell, I wouldn't even want to think about something like that. It would ruin an entire trip. (I assume you were flying to a LAN ;) )

flying to a lan? erm.. no i'm not that rich :p.
i was flying home actually :).
i couldn't hear any rattling after i took it out of the shuttle so it wasn't too bad. and i also had stuffed the case full of newspaper in static bags :D.
but thank god for robust barracuda iv's aye. :)
i dont think all hard drives could endure what i put my two through!
