Well I've been working on my cousins PC Company rig and have noticed that the pc has been freezing quite regularly and the mouse will not detect or just stop working. Even since I have done a clean install of Win98SE this PC has had WinME on it prevously and had same effect.

This leads me to believe that the PS/2 mouse is at fault, yet when I tried it on my rig it was absolutley fine. I tried my MS Optical USB mouse in his rig and it worked fine, no freezes. So now I am convinced that it's the mobo at fault (PS/2 port to be more specific). I have cleaned out the whole PC (major dust problem) and checked the mouse for cloth or any other such materials in the plug itself.

I have loaded win98 drivers for the mouse, the disk with the mouse drivers, all produce same effect. Loaded newest 4-in-1's and reinstalled mobo drivers from the original cd. This is an old PC Company PS/2 scroll mouse if anyone wants to know. I've told him to get a real mouse so he's gonna get an optical.

Anyone know if this mobo has some issues that may be related to this?

Rig Specs:
Epox EP-3VWM (Micro-ATX) Rev 1.1
VIA Cyrix III 500Mhz (Original Samuel, core @ 1.8v)
Onboard AGP Trident Blade3D 8MB (No AGP slot though)
64MB PC133 (Brand unknown)

Mobo: http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/motherboard/ep-3vwm.htm

Oh yeah I know the 1st problem with this rig..... it's PC Company

Have you tried a newer BIOS? Is there a newer BIOS? You could even try an older BIOS. As long as the older BIOS still supports the C3 chip, that is.

So to recap: Try a different BIOS. :D

Yeah I have the latest bios for it, the one on that rig is dated back in 2000. I never got around to doing it, but I will do it tomorrow when he drops it off in the mornin.

The latest bois for it supports the C3 cpu and ps/2 through dos, mabye add stability in windows as well. We'll see....

That mobo is so dumb, if officially has a maxumum of 100mhz fsb yet there is a jumper for 133mhz fsb.

I still can't get over that fact that it has no AGP slot though (AGP onboard!!!! wtf  )

HAHAHA "In addition to the built-in Trident Blade3D for high performance graphics..."

Well it was the mouse at fault... he's gettin a new one.

Here's some comedy (notice the C3 is oc'ed @ 700Mhz - 140fsb)
I am in no way surprised that a PII 400Mhz cpu rips this up  This just proves that clock speed is not what people should look for.
