no, most companies will replace the CD for a small fee when it becomes too scratched or you break it.

I have heard of CD's cracking and exploding while in use. :)

Contact Microsoft. I am almost certain they replace cd's like yours for near on free.

Friends CD blew up in his drive on the weekend, had it taken apart and cleaned and all is fine :)

Here at work (IAG Insurance) I have been told that MS will replace the CDs that are lost etc for about $40, as long as you have the receipt etc for proof of ownership.

Might pay to call them about it.

What brand/model is your cd drive? Some drives have a reputation of killing cd's ie: Aopen 52x drives.

I saw a BTC Rewriter blow up a CD.

Also you should be able to get your windows CD replaced for a small processing fee from MS if you have your license to show them. Remember you bought a license to use XP not a CD with XP on it, it is just the medium which carries the software.
