Does anyone know which is newer or better, an Asus P2b-F or Abit BH6 and would the P2B-F run a Celeron 1.0 GHz 100 MHz 10 128K core speed FC-PGA 0.18, thx

The ASUS definitely supports Coppermine Celerons (128) - check out the Asus and the Abit here: http://www.hwupgrade.com/motherboard/slot1_comparison/index6.html

The Asus BIOS is available here: http://cgi.asus.com.tw/cgi-bin/dl.asp?filename=mb/slot1/440bx/p2b-f/bx2f1013.zip

I'm not sure about the Abit - I went to their site and they don't have a 'support coppermine' BIOS for the BH6.

i'm pretty sure the BH6 support coppermine, and it's definitely the better board of the two...

*does a google*

... and yes, certain revisions do support it. if it's rev 1.1 it definitely supports it... check here for more info:

if you do a bit of googling about the BH6 you'll find it's basically considered the best BX board of all time.

And the Abit is jumperless aswell, all settings via BIOS. The Asus has alot of annoying jumpers.

i have a bh6 and find its quite a nice board. Of course it is now woefully out of date. A ata100 card would fix that though.

Soft voltage in the bios is very nice in a slot 1 board. I don't have revision 1.1 but from reading on the net they *should* support it but not officially. 1.1 has collor coded connectors for keyboard/mouse etc.

I ended up selling both me BH6 and P2B-F rather then upgrade the cpu cause it was cheaper to buy a new board and get a tualatin then hunt around for a P3 1gig. That BH6 was a great board, served me well.

oh no an uncoverted intel wh0r3

You didn't even consider a 1ghz Duron ($120 or less) + Via KT266a board ($200-270 depends on features required) + 256mb Corsair 2100 ValueSelect DDR Ram ($125)..

Upgrade to an AlthonXP 1800..like $280

For a gamer on a budget you can not beat AMD system.. power at low price.

If your budget is bigger intel P4 all the way...

So why the tualatin?

Actually I'm an AMD whore who was converted back to Intel when the 1.6a came out but your right the Duron would be a far better buy then a Celery tualatin. This upgrade is for my spare PC but I've been impressed with me 1.6a so might get another one if I can fit it on my visa.

hehe fair enough ..

I've been contemplating the move back to intel myself... but its alot more expensive then just banging a faster althonXP in what I've got now .. hmm

Yep with Intels it always comes down to money for most of us but the 1.6a was an attrative option because it was cheap and a good overclocker. Mines running @ 2.2 pretty stable but won't go much higher. I suspect my samsung ram is the problem but not sure if its worth spending $500 getting some corsair XMS. Well I can't really afford it anyway but would like to try some just to compare results.
