Has anybody tried building a windows XP cd with the SATA drivers already on it.
Having had a little experience dealing with window setups (ie inf files etc) I thought I'd give it a go.
Basically the idea being that you don't need to stuff around with the hit F6 stick in a floppy disk bollocs (also I tossed my floppy drive ages ago). :D

Not I, but I'm keen to know if you can. Talking to crazy last night, he says hes tried all sorts of things, but all were unsuccessful. There was a recent thread about auto installs that pointed to a good article in the MS Knowledge base...

There is an inf file that lists all the drivers that are tried at startup I'm going to have a shot at adding items to that. Will get back with my results.

Would be very keen to hear your results. Especially if it can be done to raid drivers too. I've given up on having raid as I can't be naffed finding a damn fdd that works.

that would be great,
My damn Gigabyte 8KNXP wouldn't even work with the drivers on the Gigabyte site but only liked the chipset drivers in full. If I don't have to do the ATA to SATA thing again I will be a very happy man.

Alrighty! :D after a solid few days of searching I have found a howto!
linkage (http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8892)
Enjoy!
/edit it even goes one step further and gives you a install with all of your drivers installed. Oh BTW these instructions are specifically for the ASUS A7N8X Delux, but you should be able to customize em.

Well my install appears to have worked. Installed directly to service pack 1 onto a native serial ata drive.
The drivers don't appear to have been installed automatically although they are now all conviently on the cd.
Also useing the script you can have it enter that dam serial code automatically :) always a nice bonus

Tip! Have a look on your windows XP cd\SUPPORT\TOOLS directory and get setupmgr.exe our of deploy.cab. You can almost completely automate you install.

I might work on a bit more generic howto for those who don't have the exact same sata controller as is in the example. I managed to get the first part (booting setup with SATA support) working on my own so I have an idea what to do.
