Just posted this in the tardme forums but thought I might have more luck here :)
So I go to do my university assignment which is due tomorrow, and suddenly I can't edit any microsoft word documents... Everytime I go to type, nothing heppens, but a bar along the bottom says "This command is not available because the document is locked for edit." Office XP by the way. I've updated virus definitions and done a scan, no luck... so what's up? This could be a real bummer in terms of how my assignment goes tonight, although I guess I could just do it in an email and mail it to another computer to chuck into word and print out... but anyone have any thoughts? :)
If you have fast internet or a cd of it you could grab OpenOffice.org. Not quite as good as MS Word but should work:)

Did you run spybot at all?
I killed both Works and Word with it.

When that RPC security hole came out and Massey was hit 1/2 of their computers did that in MS word.
I suggest a virus scan.

what's wrong with wordpad?
the alternative however is to code it in html (not at all hard).. has the advantage of platform independance...

Also, check these, especially if you're a member of a network domain, windows has a habit of ****ing around with them:
I've had the problem before that system policies enforced by other computers make my documents unsuable.
