Please guys help me out here!

I want to buy a Geforce4Ti4200, but should I take the 64MB version or the 128MB one? (since I heard the 64MB runs faster?)

Also What brand should I take? I have the choice between:
Chaintech, Leadtek or MSI.

Thanx for your Help!

Read this (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=548)
And dont buy a chaintech card.
Buy leadtek or cardexpert/gainward.
My opinion anyway........

Yes, buy a Leadtek. Although I've heard that MSI vid cards are quite good. But I like Leadtek and would never change brands. Never I tell you........

Heh - Leadtek's are better cards, but you'll pay a bit more.

But given you've got the 64MB/128MB choice, I'll assume you've got the cash. Get a Leadtek 64MB Ti4200. IMHO anyways.... ;)

Gainward/Abit in my opinion. I've got an Abit Ti4200 Siluro (Its Blue :D) with stock cooling from 250/500 to 310/625 no problems.

The 128mb vs. 64mb argument has been done. Short term, you'll overclock the memory higher, play in current generation games faster, and generally benchmark higher :)

Long term, the extra memory helps towards texture detail, and AA. If you want quality in games, and a high level of detail, the 128mb card is the way to go.

The thing is, I won't buy another card for at least 1 year, so the 128MB would be prefered?

But then again, I would like to be able to play let's say GrandPrix4, UT2 and other FPS with high detail, so should I take the 64MB card?

Gimme your opinion...

In all honesty, my upgrade cycle is between 6 and 8 weeks when i can afford it.

I'd buy the 64mb card, the gains in the short term outweigh the advantages in the long term.

Give linkage of where you get these prices ppl. He's seriously considering a card so help him out with places to purchase it if you're posting a price.

So where is it? Starlyte (http://www.starlyte.co.nz/main3.php?section=18) is near the price for a Leadtek.

/edit - oh, i dont suppose it matters in this case, mobi being in Belgium and all *ahem*

PCGamer (http://www.pcgamer.co.nz) has currently got a 128MB Leadtek (without Vivo) for $410. You will struggle to beat that for value.

Thanks for the advice guys. (and indeed I live in Belgium, the other side of the world :-)

I bought the Leadtek TI4200 with 128MB and VIVO

The games I tested are great, except for GrandPrix4.

I have 1 more question left: I got software with the card to oc it. Is it safe do overclock it that way? (without changing the fan or anything else)

Greetz from the far Belgium!

yes obviously if you replace the fan with something else it might be possible to get the GPU a little higher ... but most manufacturers provide pretty good cooling solutions these days........ with a little testing and time you should be able to find the limit of the card reasonably easy

What I meant is, the software tool to OC the card was supplied with the card! (Winfox or something) So is it safe to use it, without changing anything on the card?

2 much thinking
11-07-2002, 10:56 PM
yes winfox is all you need

the Leadtek Ti 4200 comes will a very nice heatsink and fan. You would have to be thinking out of the ordinary to want to replace that if it is overheating. If it is overheating then you've OC'd it tooooo much
