I'm buying a DVD player tomorrow, What brand Should I get?

currently i'm looking at the Sony DVPNS300 for $599

Other Players i've got my eye on are Panasonic DVDRV31 and Pioneer DV344 both $499 each. The Pioneer comes with 20 free rentals.

Any advice or ideas most welcome, I take it these players are all multizone?

You're talking about Brownware I presume?

Sony dont do multizone do they?
They never used to, anyway...

Just buy a Mustek one, $299, multizone, DTS and Dolby Digital out, and get a decent 5.1 amp/setup.

I have a crappy Philips one in the lounge, and getting the Mustek one for the bedroom, because at that price, why the hell not??

The Musteks ABSOLUTELY ROCK! My main Home Ent. System Mustek V560 DVD Player

And then 2 of the smaller ones (Really no difference at all in features) V520. Both VERY good DVD players

Well i've completely gone off getting the sony as theres no CD-R support and no MP3 support and in alot of cases has huge trouble reading CDRW's.

Musteks sound good for the price but i wanna spend a little more and get something a little better. I've read a few reviews on the Panasonic DVD RV31 and it seems to get alot higher picture and sound quality compared to the Sony and has full support for CDR, CDRW and MP3 CD's.
So I think i'll go for Panasonic but yea those Musteks sound like good value for money.

I wouldn't buy any Sony - they are all chipped to zone 0, so wont play any disc with REC/watermarking. I heard you can get them chipped to a true multizone, but that it does cost some amount of money - I haven't had this confirmed though.

I would buy the Pioneer 344 - its s true multi zone, it'll play any disc on the market and has nice outputs (composite, svhs, component). Doesn't play mp3 - but most poeple buy them to play movies, not music.

The panasonic is also a true multizone, but its a manual select - the Pioneer selects automatically, a small plus for it in my book.

Pioneer is NZs most popular player - its what I would buy.

Hope this helps

The Mustek DVD players are good quality and are multizone. Plus they can also play CDR/CDRW/MP3/VCD. ;)

The Musteks do rock. The only reason you don't hear alot about them and the reason they aren't really sold in Bond & Bond etc, is because they don't indulge in million dollar marketing/advertising campaigns like Sony and Panasonic.

I have sold six of them oin the last few days. As none have come back I am assuming that they are a pretty good buy. Must be true mulitzone I guess.

I could have had one for $230 or so. Maybe I'll regret not getting it later on...

Hmmmmm... I've been in the market for a DVD player, too. Can anyone tell me if these Musteks support DVD+R/RW,-R/RW, and/or DVD-RAM?

I got me a Panasonic player, was a bit disapointed it didn't support mp3's in the end :( also doesn't support SVCD's :(
other than that it's a good player.

I wanna buy a DVD writer when they come a bit cheaper, so just like Iblis would be interested to know of a player which will play those writtible formats.
