View Full Version : case cooling with blowholes
if i place a fan at the front of the case to suck in cool air (assuming the air outside the case is cooler then the air inside the case) and blow any hot air inside the case out the top... will this really make a difference to the inside temp of the case?
should i place a filter on the intake fan tp prevent dust?

nah man, you wanna stick the 2nd fan on the back of the case not the top, it draw the air over top of the cpu HSF.
then maybe stick a slower fan on the top to draw out the heat buildup arround the drive bays ect (if you have one)
thanks for the reply.
however i prolly should have mentioned that im working with a mini-tower case, there is not really any room left on the back of the case... (cept about a width of ~60mm, height of 7 slots between the slots and side of case which is under the power supply, the power supply is on its side and the atx back panel takes up rest of the room... ) so i figureed maybe a hole up the top to suck air out? maybe even 2 holes (and fans)
is the hole at the front to suck air in along the right track

right on the money, have you got on of those cases with the psu right above the cpu? if so try putting the fan on the as close to above the CPU as possible
i would love it to be over the cpu, but that just happind to be where the handle is attached... i can prolly fit one in the middle of the handle and one b4 the handle....
thanks for the help :)

heh such is life :D it going to have a positve effect to the case temp no matter where you put it, so just pick the best place you can
wicked, last night i stopped my cpu fan with my finger (only for a quick second) and noticed a large reduction in noise.... wont adding 2-3 fans make more noise? is there a decent brand that is quiet?

Yes. Noise comes with air cooling and better air cooling solutions are noisier. Their isn't much you can do about that, because air cooling whilst being realiable, is noisy.
Anyways here are some good fans, from a fan of Styles PC.

Look under the fans selection.
You will want to choose one between 1000-3000 rpm values, 5000 rpm is loud while 7000 rpm [or deltas] are unbearable with a loud whinning noise from them.
E-mail John or other people depending in your region and ask for their opnion because they know their stuff and what you need.
Your never ever gonna get a perfectly quiet fan, BUT some brands are better at compromising performace [ **.** CFM] against noise [** dB].
cheers, i know of stylespc already, good shop :)
ill see wat i can find... and fit :)
