Hey again,

So I'm wanting to get a dvd-reader, and my girlfriend wants a dvd reader and cd writer combo thing (I already have a cd writer)

At the moment I'm leaning towards an Asus E616 for $85 as far as the DVD reader goes. If anyone can offer any objections/support to that decision, that would be nice :)

I have no idea about the DVD/CD writer combo though. Looking at http://www.pricespy.co.nz/cat_9.html I see that there are samsung ones for $150, but whaddaya reckon? Is it better in the long run to go for 2 seperate drives?

Thanks for your help once again guys :)

After having a quick look around CDRW/DVD drives, this Samsung SM348 looks OK at first glance @$148...

Anyone got one? Anyone got anything against one?

Cheers :)

Hello richard,

I would recommend you get the Asus E-616. The good thing about it is that you can region unlock it really easily, without needing to flash its firmware or anything risky like that. You can check that out at www.rpc1.org . My Asus E-616 is arriving next friday, so that's cool :)

I think that it is better to get 2 separate drives and not a combo drive. To me, if one of the drives has problems, at least I still have the other ;)

Another thing, I asked the very same question a few weeks ago, you can see it here:
