I'm going to attempt something like that at the above link next week, but i do not have a column drilling machine or an electric drill (doh!), will still be able to do it with minimal tools? ie: hacksaw, lame manual drill etc?

:D

I'll be sticking in either a TT S-Fan, Delta Black label or Vantec Stealth fan ... whichever i decide on, on Wednesday, which fan do you reccomend and do you reckon it'll be reasonably easy with minimal tools? (oh and brains, jk)

Thanks ;)

If you're in Christchurch you can use my drill press!

Otherwise borrow power tools!!!

You could do it without power tools but it will take you a year!! Alternatively pay an engineering company (or something) to do it for you. They may even do it for free.

Use a nibbling tool. I picked one up at DS for $25, cause it was convienient, but I'm sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere. I put a template on, drilled screw holes and a big (10mm) hole to start the nibbler. Took about 15min to cut the 80mm blowhole, then I cleaned it up with a file. I stuck it directly above the CPU and saw a nice decrease in temps, went from 35 load to about 29. That's using a 40cfm DSE fan (for the blowhole), and a Volcano 5.

I'm lucky, my father in law has a sheet-metal factury and a machine that makes brilliant holes like that. Just setup the size of the hole, shove your case lid in, clamp, and you have the perfect hole.

I recon it the best position for cooling and give maximum effect.
