ok i have jetstart using a Nokia Ni500 router. It has been working fine for about a year and then suddenly it stops working. i check the LAN card, wiring, try logging on again and ring xtra to see if any problems at their end, nothing. then i restart and its fine.
it works fine all night then the next day i turn the computer on, nothing. i restart the computer and try turning off and on the router at exactly the same time as the computer restarts and it works perfectly.
im thinking it could be because of how the router stores the information on it or something?
any ideas someone?
Dave
edit: by the way the connection to the router is fine and the modem logs on fine everytime, there just isnt any data transfer through the router so the computer searches for the homepage for a while then gives up.

I assume you're using a dialer to control the ni500?
Set it up via telnet (search the forums, I have given instructions before), get rid of the dialer and setup your nic on the 192.168.7.x subnet pointing to 7.1 as the gateway. Then leave the router on 24/7. That way it's set and forget. If problems persist, replace the damn thing... ni500's are known for sucking

i use a program called "dsl on" to set up the router.
yeah its set up 192.168.7.1 gateway and 192.168.7.2 ip address.
oh ok i thought nokia modems were meant to be good since companies always seem to have them, is it just ni500's that suck or all of them?
i have tried telnet "hyperterminal" to communicate with the modem but its soo frustrating. i cant even figure out how to go back a directory with it! i mean go back to the root menu again or just back one.

the ni500 isnt actually nokia gear.. its made by infinilink and has the nokia name slapped onto it... If you go to an M series router you'll notice the difference ;)
browsing the ni500 (and most routers) via telnet is more nix like than msdos like...
eg cd .. instead of cd..

Call me a noob, but could someone explain why you need a dialer program for a router? Shouldn't you just set your network settings to whatever the router likes?
Just curious.

ok this is getting really annoying and wierd. net wasnt working again last night, tried for 2 hrs, have figured out telnet now so using that to configure but still no luck last night.
today i turn on the computer and the net works fine!grr!
the left side is when it wasnt working the right side is when its working.
the only other error i got in telnet is that it said something about LCP send limit reached, im not sure what that is. i increased the lcpmaxfailure, lcpmaxterminate and lcpmaxconfigure but it still didnt work last night.
this is getting annoying.
