After seeing the prices @ stylespc ($50 for 172 or 156watt DD's) I thought damn, i better get one.. he only questyon is which one??
I have a 1.4gig Tbird, running @ 1.6gig/1.92volts, with a 500watt PSU.
stats:
---------------------------------------------
156 watt:
Imax = 16.1 Amps
Qmax = 156 Watts
Vmax = 15.8 Volts
Delta Tmax = 69 (C)
Size = 48mm X 48mm X 3.4mm
----------------------------------------------
172 watt:
Imax = 11.3 Amps
Qmax = 172 Watts
Vmax = 24.6 Volts
Delta Tmax = 69 (C)
Size = 40mm X 40mm X 3.2mm
----------------------------------------------
If I run it at 12volts, the 152 watt one would be better because of the higher max. ampage????
what kind off temps would i be able to get?
well, I would say that the 172W is better because it uses more W.
If you wan't to, just grab a cheap stepdown transformer, hook it up to a full bridge recitifer and chuck on a couple of capcitors and you will be sweet.
But if you can't be stuffed doing that, get the 156W and run it of your PSU.
can't edit my post :(
what I was trying to say was, to run the 172W one, you need a high V of 24V. You can get it by making your own PSU, or hooking up two computer PSU's.
Or you can run the 156W one of your computer PSU.
also the 156W one is bigger which is another thing to think about.

172W = 2.18 ohms
156W = 0.98 ohms
so on 12V using V^2/R then:
172W = 144/2.18=66 Watts of cooling (your CPU would fry)
156W = 144/0.98= 147 Watts of cooling
So definately go the 156W if your are going to use 12v.

If you are asking that question dumass, you shouldnt be playing with such dangerous (to hardware) equipment.
The delta Tmax is the maximum difference between hot and cold sides, if runnign at optimal voltage.
Think little before you ask such a question:
- What are you cooling?
- What are you cooling the hot side with?
etc etc
There is ****eloads of info on the net that you need to read before asking that question - coz no answer will help you :)

It's been a while since I've palyed with peltiers, but with a T-Bird 1.4GHz at 1.92v+ 147 watts of cooling will barely be able to keep up with the 100W of heat the CPU is putting out. It would not suprise me if your temps were well above ambient and no better than air cooling. I think you will be in for a big dissapointment.
You need a full powered 172W to make a difference, and dual peltiers would get you to around zero. Thats my best guess, but then again I was playing with peltiers on a Duron 600 which is another ball game.
