View Full Version : burner/mobo problem
I have an Aopen 1232a running on a dfi POS and i cant burn cd's
i have - flashed the drive to the latest firmware
- installed the latest 4 in 1's
- punched it
- sworn at it
The thing that pisses me off is that it works sweet in my mates ST6/tualatin1.1
Im running 2k at the moment.
- nero freezes when detecting scsi/ide bus thingy
- nti 2000 pro cant find any burners(it can find my drive but thinks its not a burner)
- Some drive info app thinks its not a burner also
anybody got any ideas??

getting new ASPI drivers would help.
i had problems with various programs like CDRWin not recognising my Asus 2410
installed those and everything worked fine.....
cant remember the site for them tho...
think its on the adaptec site...

Try togling DMA access for that drive - i had a prob with my CDR once and it only worked once i disabled DMA. On my DRV5 DMA is enabled without probs...
Can't hurt to try...

Do you have a Windows ME partition - if not make one and try it.
i have the same problem under 2k and xp
have installed some aftermarket aspi drivers and that has no effect
Will try dma in a while as i currently got it unplugged
think the cable might be the problem as i plugged the hdd into it and it didnt exactly load 2k (unless you can read frenglishaneese)
might try putting hdd and cd on same cable, think that will work

I was he who had the similar problem. i tested the following:
cables, computer (let viper nz try it out), aspi drivers, older/newer firmwares and all to no avail.
here is the problem: a grubby lens.
* the house i was previously in was dustier than NY on sep11 i kid you not, tasteless comparison but get over it.
* the burnings i had done previous to my burner playing up used grubby blanks.. i cleaned them off as best i could but they were still a bit filthy
this is what i have done since:
*reinstalled 2k (got new 60gig drive so why not ;))
*forceASPI
this got an improvement but the real improver was this:
*dug out cdlens cleaner and ran it through several times
that got a HUGE improvement in readability. my drive is out of warrenty, and it still plays up every so often.. and doesnt like warehouse blanks anymore (seems to like melody blanks from harvey norman tho) so i'm going to open it up and give it a good clean out
hope this helps ya fraz
another thing to do is turn AIN the **** off... lots of burning softwarez out there dont like it
still no go:mad:
used cd cleaner
hit it
hit it some more
put it in the mrs comp and it worked
tried it on a different cable
hit it
installed 98 on another drive still wont burn but it reads good
think ill sell it for $100 and buy a 32X something for $220:)
